We had the good fortune of connecting with Logan Blankenship and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Logan, what do you attribute your success to?
I would say the most important factor behind our success is our commitment to high quality not only in our products but our customer experience as well. Having a great product can draw people in, but a great customer experience retains them and keeps them coming back.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Sure thing! Our commitment extends beyond just the aesthetics and craftsmanship of our furniture; it encompasses the entire customer journey. From the moment your order is placed to the final delivery, we take pride in involving you every step of the way. You can anticipate regular updates outlining our progress directly from the craftsmen working on your piece.

Diverging from the model of large-scale retailers that churn out countless furniture items annually, sometimes monthly, we stand as a humble furniture design studio. Our emphasis rests on quality rather than quantity. Our creations are born from deliberate design and sustainable practices, resulting in products built to withstand the test of time. We’re not solely offering furniture; we’re providing an unparalleled experience that resonates with our dedication to excellence.

I would say I’ve been able to get where I am today through my commitment and dedication towards my goals. As many small business owners know, if you’re not working, stuff likely isn’t getting done. It’s easy to stay at home and watch a movie or go out with friends, which, don’t get me wrong, you should definitely do. But as a business owner, if you want to be successful, sometimes you have to get out there and do the work even when you might not want to. It’s not always easy, and it’s definitely a fine balance to maintain progress while also not feeling burnt out, but it’s something you learn through doing what works best for you.

Again, many small business owners probably already know this, but you wear multiple hats, sometimes all of them. You may have to be the designer, builder, marketer, salesperson, customer service rep, etc. So it’s not always enough to just be great at one thing to be successful. I would say one of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is to be open to growing your skillset and knowledge in all areas of your business but also understand when it makes sense to outsource areas to others who are more experienced. If you’re able to take some of the load off yourself and shift that over to someone else who is likely more skilled than you in that particular area, you now have more time to focus on the things you’re great at. There’s nothing wrong in seeking out others to help you in your business, and sometimes you might not have a choice.

Now a little about our business. Established in 2018, The Spalty Dog stands as a Cincinnati, Ohio-based furniture design studio specializing in mid-century design. Since our inception, our unwavering objective has been to offer individuals exquisite, high-end furnishings that effortlessly harmonize with their distinctive tastes. Rooted in the belief that embracing authenticity is paramount, we refuse to compromise on this principle. This is exemplified by the fact that every piece of our meticulously crafted furniture is exclusively created upon order, skillfully handcrafted by artisans in our modest studio.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Hmm. Great question. I would say a couple of great things to do in Cincinnati would be visiting the Cincinnati Zoo. It’s one of the best in the nation, of course! Then checking out a Cyclones hockey game, I don’t know a ton about hockey, but every time we go, it’s always a blast. When it comes to food, you obviously have to stop by Eli’s BBQ on the east side, then one of my favorites, Lalo, downtown. They have the best fish tacos ever. Not to mention, there are a ton of parks and breweries all over the city if you appreciate craft beer.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Definitely! I couldn’t agree more. In the early stages of my journey, I gained a wealth of knowledge from the YouTube maker community. Over the years, I’ve also established valuable connections with fellow creators in my local area. Thane Lorbach, a skilled woodworker nearby, has been incredible for bouncing off thoughts and challenges. Moreover, I owe a significant part of my progress to the unwavering support of my wife, Lindsey.
