We had the good fortune of connecting with Sophie and Casey Beres and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sophie and Casey, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
Our end goals for our company are driven by a simple desire: to create a business that can support both myself and my partner, my sister Casey. But, this support is about more than just financial success; it’s about sustaining a way of life that allows us to continue doing what we love with the person we cherish most – not just as partners in business but as best friends.

We aim to build a business that not only provides for our livelihoods but also fosters an environment of creativity, innovation, and fulfillment. As we work towards these goals, we remain grateful for the opportunities and support that have come our way thus far! We understand that success is a journey, and we’re excited to continue growing, learning, and building together.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Our custom apparel business, Brushedbysophh, had a special focus on customized sneakers for the last three years. Working in the sneaker space has shown to be extremely male-dominated. We brought a much-needed feminine aesthetic and perfectionist attitude to the industry. And over time, our ability to turn this space on it’s head, managed to bring up the privilege of collaborating with celebrities like Demi Lovato, Khloe Kardashian, Jojo Siwa, and more, which has been an incredible experience! And, this year, my sister made the decision to join the business full-time, a HUGE step forward in our journey as she transitioned from working two jobs to dedicating her efforts entirely to Brushedbysophh.

One of the most valuable lessons we’ve learned is not to judge success solely by social media numbers. We’ve come to understand that followers and likes don’t always translate into sales or genuine success. Our mission at Brushedbysophh is clear: we aim to bring personalized fashion to everyone’s closet because we firmly believe that EVERYONE deserves to feel unique and like the main character in their own story.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We are based in central New Jersey – a state out in the Northeast USA. Depending on the season, our itinerary would have to be adjusted – New Jersey sees all four seasons, so different weather calls for different activities! Though, if our out-of-town best friend was stopping in the area for a fun summertime weekend, we would definitely need to make a pit-stop at a few of our favorite farmers markets and beach-front coffee shops. Thrifting in northern Jersey would be a blast and then we would take the train into NYC because, if we’re being honest, it’s not a true “Jersey girl” weekend unless you ride NJ Transit into The Big Apple.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We definitely want to shout-out our mom! She has had an unwavering amount of support and belief in our business from day one. Her faith in us has served as a rock in our journey, and it means the world.

As sisters, we’ve had our fair share of disagreements and moments when our personal dynamics spilled over into our work as partners. However, our mom always emphasized just how fortunate we are to collaborate with someone we not only trust but deeply respect and value. These reminders have been such a glue that’s kept us together during the challenging times.
