Meet Brittney Blystone | Photographer & Mother

We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittney Blystone and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brittney, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
My choice for pursuing an artistic career came to me in high school. I fell in love with art. With the way certain works of art made me feel. I love all forms of creative outlets, but for me photography, glass blowing, and paint will always be top 3! Choosing to pursue a career in a field I truly had a passion for came naturally, even when those around me said it was a waste of time. I wanted to be sure others knew just how much it meant to me and to show them what I saw. If I could just show them everything I was seeing through my view finder, I knew I could make others fall in love with art as well.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
When I started this photography journey, I was just a baby. I was in college and had just married my high school sweetheart who was in the Marine Corps. I named my business the most basic of all names (my first & last name, followed by the word photography) and went out into the world advertising that I would photograph anything. After all, I was so excited to get behind the camera and photograph! At the time we were in Beaufort, SC. So most of my clients were fellow Marine spouses or beach vacationers headed to Hilton Head Island. I photographed many families, couples, children, and scenery. Fast forward about 4 years and we had just moved to Florida with our 3 year old. Life was hard, my husband was freshly out of the military and struggling with personal struggles. We found ourselves separated and I moved back to Ohio to be with family. When I moved home, I realized I needed to change my photography name as it was still my married name! So I thought for al long time about what I wanted it to be. What I wanted my brand to represent. After a few months of thinking I finally came up with the PEFECT name. Blooming Life Artistry. And it holds such a special place in my heart. Blooming Life has multiple reasons behind it, but the most significant would be that my life was indeed blooming into something more beautiful and magical in this new season. It also represents all of the new beauty I love to capture. From mamas with their sweet baby bumps to my newly engaged couples starting a new life as one getting married. Blooming Life, all of life’s new beginnings. And then I chose Artistry because I wanted my photography to evoke emotion and power. Not just be a simple photograph. It has been 5 years since that change and I am happy to say my husband and I have found out way back to one another, my business is booming, and our now two kiddos truly are my greatest subjects!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I reside in Akron, Ohio, which really is not far from most things! If I had to make an itinerary for my bestie and I to go out on the town it would look like the following; Monday – Wake up and head out to hike in the Cuyahoga Valley! On the drive there we would stop and grab a morning drink from Starbucks and blast the radio to hype ourselves up. Once we hiked the trails I would head over to Feel Good BBQ to grab some lunch! After that we would just head home to relax and enjoy the night in.
Tuesday – Tuesdays were made for strolling. I would head over to Hartville and explore all of the cute and unique shops the town has to offer! Of course picking up some delicious treats to snack on along the way from Almost Heaven ice cream!
Wednesday – Time to hit up the Akron Zoo for a few hours. It is such a quaint and perfect zoo to just stroll and enjoy the views! You can see downtown Akron from the Eagles nest, so cool! Then we would head out and grab some pizza from Upper Crust!
Thursday – I like to sightsee, so I would take my bestie up to Cleveland and do ALL the things! Hit up Sweeties Candy shop, take a stroll through the Cleveland Botanical Gardens, and of course stop by the iconic CLE signs around town!
Friday – I would fill Friday with more things in Akron. Like the Art Museum, seeing the RubberDucks play (Depending on season.) and of course get ice cream from PAVS Creamery!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Without the continual support of my family, I don’t know that I would have ever been on this path! My mom and dad got me my first camera for Christmas and my siblings are always booking photo sessions with me, supporting me, and shouting me out to anyone they may know.
