We had the good fortune of connecting with Darwin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Darwin, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
I take inspiration from a lot of different places. When it comes to writing I tend to get inspired by certain eras of music. I’ll listen to those eras for like a month straight then incorporate elements of those songs into rap. Lately, I have been really inspired by funk music from the 70’s/80’s through bands like Daz Band, so I have been writing to more groovy beats with funky basses. My producer AG really loves to make funky bluesy guitar riffs which has made it easy for us to pump out songs recently.

I feel like a lot of my inspiration is also sparked through the people I hang out with. My friends are always putting me on to new music from all sorts of genres and eras that make me want to lock myself in the studio. When I have a thought or an idea I like to try and get somewhat of a demo down the same day try and capture exactly what I was feeling in that moment the best I can.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My name is Darwin and I make what I like to call Evolution Music. I came up with the idea because of how I mentioned earlier that I like to take inspiration from multiple genres of music and blend them into rap creating a unique sound. I have been making music since the 7th grade. I started out doing rap battling on the school bus and trying to come up with bars on hall passes. Back then it was always about the fun of it and that has never changed.

It was not easy at first to be comfortable with performing, but as time went on my passion and love for it kept growing by doing it so much. I feel very lucky and inspired when I look back on those times because I came from that to opening for an artist on a national tour, performing on college campuses, being signed to a small record label, and actually paying for studio sessions with the royalties from my songs.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If you’re new to the city or just visiting I always recommend visiting High Bank Distillery. The place makes fantastic wiskey and a great atmosphere. Another couple of really good spots are Bodega and Cazuelas if you’re in the mood for some mexican food.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a huge shout out to my manager Matt, my producers/engineers AG and 412Dreamer, RedBull for keeping me awake, and my mom and dad. Without you guys none of this would be possible.
