We had the good fortune of connecting with Written Soul and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Written, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Hope. It’s funny because I was going to speak on my thought process behind starting my own business when it hit me with this one that they’re one in the same-the answers anyway, and that’s hope. We give people back their hope here at Left 2B Write. We hit them with a firm, love filled “yes you can, and you will if you really want to. We’ve got your back.”

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am rapper/songwriter who just happens to own an entertainment company on the side! That’s a blessing. I am proud of the fact that I have accomplished a two year nomination for “Lyricist of the Year,” at the Ohio Entertainment Awards, and won “Best Female Hip-Hop Artist” award at the JoshFromYNC Awards in PA last fall. Perserverance is how I got to where I am today, and it was a long way from easy, but looking back today it was all worth it. Every chance I got I thought about my “whys; why am I doing this, who are you doing this for and why, what makes it worth it, etc.” One of the most important lessons I’ve learned along the way is remain you throughout it all. Only give the best of yourself that you have to offer in any circumstance. I would like the world to know that if we did it, so can you. The only thing unique about us s that we chose to say yes in the multiple times we wanted to say no.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oo, so we would start off by going to Blue Door Cafe for a meal and mimosas, that’s almost a complete must. Then, we would hit a metro park to walk around and enjoy the scenery for a bit. We would check out some of the game nights at Brighten Brewery and chill out at the Mustarrd Seed Cafe. There would be lots of small gatherings at the house playing games of course lol. We would eat at Alexander Pierce, and venture downtown on Market and Main for some night life activities throughout the week. One thing that I love about Akron is all the small front, and mom and pop shops and stores that we have, so we would do some store exploring visiting the old record shops we have all down West Market, go to the glass shop on Bowery, and go to the Well for a small coffee or tea break. At some point or another we’d make our way to The Boiling House because they have the BEST seafood and fruit drinks in the city to me! I’d order us my favorite dish to get from Cilantro’s, Nephew’s, Smack Yo Mamas, and to top everything off place an order with my cousin’s new eatery Fat Belly BBQ. Safe to say there would be a lot of scenic visits, eating, gaming, and relaxing going on.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate this shoutout to both my mothers, my father, my aunt, and my entire support system. Without them, I’m not sure that I would be quite as strong as I am today. Not only have they given me things they’ve known, but they have also sacrificed to give me the things they believed I needed, some being at times they didn’t even know how to give it. They are the corner stones and building blocks of my future, and even in my having a story to tell, I’m just a portion of theirs. It’s always been much bigger than me. Now as an adult I thank God everyday for the individuals who have all helped raise me, this list includes influential teachers, coaches, and strangers I’ve met along the way. It’s amazing what positively interacting through someone else’s story can do for your own.
