Meet Prari Parran | Tie-dye and Macrame’ Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Prari Parran and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Prari, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
That’s a great question. Recently, I have been thinking a lot lately about what makes me happy. I have started to pause in moments that make me really happy and I try to create a mental note, so that I remember that moment. I think a lot of what makes me happy comes down to meaningful relationships. I love spending time with my friends and my family. Connecting with people around a table or bonfire is one of my favorite things, whether we’re sharing simple stories from our everyday lives or digging in to the challenges of faith and love. I value moments when people share honestly together, laughing and crying at the same table. These deep conversations bring such a sweet happiness to me. My children also make me truly happy. I am so blessed to have five children, and watching them grow up and become who they are at their core is a pretty incredible gift as a mother. Another important relationship to me is my relationship with God; I became a Christian when I was 15, and having a relationship with God has brought me such peace and joy. As a tie-dye and macrame’ artist, creating is such an important part of my life. Every time I get to create something new, my heart feels full of joy and gratitude. I feel a similar level of joy when I am teaching art classes to kids and helping them express their own creativity.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a tie-dye and macrame’ artist. I create unique animals and designs in my tie-dyes; I create cityscapes and mountains in my macrame’. I also enjoy creating macrame’ planters, macrame’ animals, macrame’ and macro weave wall hangings. I am continually growing as an artist by learning different ties and knots for my work and trying new ideas and designs. My friends and family have always been so supportive along my journey. I am also so grateful for every single person that has ever bought a piece of my work. I remember the first time I had a show, I was so nervous to put my work out in front of the public. The show turned out wonderfully and I overcame my nerves for the next show. I started my business in 2019 and over the years I have learned so much. I have learned that sometimes customs are stressful (but usually help me grow) and sometimes things don’t turn out; when this happens, I have to be patient, allow myself to learn, and just try again. There is grace in those moments. I am truly grateful for every year that I get to create, it makes me happy.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Cincinnati is such a great place to live! I used to live in Northside, Cincinnati, and definitely have some favorites from there. There are lovely coffee shops, like Collective Espresso and Sidewinder Coffee. There is also a wonderful Nepali cuisine restaurant, Bridges (their food is amazing!) and Tickle Pickle has delicious burgers. Apart from Northside, Adriatico’s Pizza in Clifton has the best pizza and Marx Bagels in Blue Ash has the best bagels. For recreation and entertainment, I love the Cincinnati Art Museum, the Contemporary Art Museum, Music Hall, the Festival of Lights at the Cincinnati Zoo, kayaking on the Little Miami River, Cincinnati Nature Preserve and going to an FC Cincinnati soccer game or a Bengals football game!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to thank my husband John, for all of the support, love, and encouragement that he has given me along the way. John is my biggest cheerleader. He helps me with setting up and tearing down all of my sh0ws. John also makes sure I have the space and time that I need to create. He is always so encouraging of my work. As an artist there are times that projects fail and do not come out how I expect, John is always so encouraging. He celebrates my wins and he hugs me through my fails. I know my business would not be where it is today without him. He is an amazing dad to our 5 boys and an amazing husband; I am so grateful for him in my life.
