Meet Cristina Soriano | Custom Baker and Business Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Cristina Soriano and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cristina, why did you pursue a creative career?
I have tried many different career fields and I’ve always come back to doing something creative! Being creative and creating different designs with desserts and cakes makes me happy! I find joy in my work and proud of it!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started my business by practicing recipes that I would find online or from watching cooking shows. I changed what I didn’t like about certain recipes and created my own! I’m a self taught baker and I’m very proud of how far I’ve come. I’m full time with my business. I have a dedicated kitchen to my craft. I have a great amount of loyal customers and gathering new customers daily! I have tried many different styles of decorating but what sets me apart is the taste of my bakery. I take pride in products! Everything is from scratch with high quality ingredients , nothing frozen! It wasn’t easy at the beginning. I had to really put myself out there and give away a lot of products so people could taste what I have to offer. After a few years of doing this part time and giving away samples, I’ve created a great following and have staples in my menu that I am now known for!
The things I would love the world to know about me is that I am creative, dedicated and I make delicious desserts!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This is a tough one because our city is full of really amazing places to see and do! I would definitely go to some of my favorite places like Tommy’s in Coventry, take them to Little Italy to grab some fun desserts. Probably go downtown to a show or play at Playhouse square. If it’s during the holidays, take them to see the lights all over town. I would also take a night where I can cook dinner for them!! I’m known for my baking, but I can also cook really well!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’ve created this business from scratch in my kitchen from a lot of trial and error. It would just be a hobby if it wasn’t for the push and encouragement I received from my husband, Massimo! He is a successful business owner himself and he always believes in me, even in the moments I may not fully believe in myself. He has given me business advice and he encourages me to thrive!
