We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmyn Rogers-Turner and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jasmyn, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Art, makeup, crafting, event planning and decor have always been my happy place. Those were the things that energized me. No matter how tired, busy, or stressed I was, a facepaint client or chance to decorate for an event would wash all that away. I love going from bullet points in my notebook to an executed vision. Even more than that, I want memorable celebrations to be accessible for everyone. That is another big motivation for me. I also knew that in order to be fulfilled, despite having a good 9 to 5, for my own mental health and fulfillment I had to add creativity to my life.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have always been drawn to DIY projects. I wound up facepainting after volunteering at school events and family military Christmas parties. I got great feedback and decided to create a Facebook page and go for it. I was always the go to for any event my friends and family were planning, so with a few facepaint gigs under my belt, I had the confidence to begin marketing those services as well. I was gaining momentum pre-covid,  but am still reorganizing after the pandemic. I also am still figuring out how to navigating wearing my event planner /senior analyst/wife/mom hats.  In this season I am really focusing on health. I realized that actulizing my goals takes stamina. As a business owner your health is the foundation you build your dreams upon. So I’m focused on building healthy habits and honing my crafts. Giving my all to my family, then as an analyst while still carving out time for entrepreneurship can often lead to burnout. To combat that I have focused less on new business and more on practicing my facepaint work and event designs as well as volunteering and serving my community. I think building my portfolio will help me get more clarity on my pricing strategies and help me find new inspiration. What I want people to know about my brand is that I have a passion for serving and uplifting others. My creativity so often was born out of a “make something outta nothing” mentality I cultivated watching all the women in my family make magic from humble provisions. That ability now has positioned me to help people create amazing experiences for my clients without breaking the bank. I believe we all deserve joyful, beautiful celebrations, no matter our socioeconomic status, and I want to be part of creating them!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would say you have to get drinks and dinner at Brewdog’s in Canal Winchester. Charcuterie board, wings and sweet potato fries are a must! I would also reccomend a visit to Scene 75 because there is soo much to play. Lastly an entire evening in the Short North. To browse shops, hop bars for drinks and cap the night with some pizza from Mikey’s Late Night’s Slice.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My Husband. We just celebrated our 14th anniversary. He is my best friend and champion of me being my most authentic self. Whether its encouraging me to go all natural with my hair and decolonize my ideas of beauty, or nudging me to paint more, or take risks marketing myself, he is always reminding me of my talents.  He speaks confidence into me when I may be struggling to see my purpose and skills for myself. I can always take shelter from my racing mind in his calm reassurance. He keeps me doubled over laughing.  He is (second only to our amazing son) the most likely culprit of my biggest smiles and I am so  thankful we get to do life together.
