Meet Rachel ‘Rae’ Crowder | Founder, CEO

We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachel ‘Rae’ Crowder and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rachel ‘Rae’, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
As a CEO passionate about wellness, my journey to balance has been transformative. Initially, work consumed me; balance felt elusive. Over time, I learned that true harmony emerges from intentional choices. I prioritize self-care rituals, setting boundaries, and fostering a supportive workplace culture. Embracing technology for remote work enhanced flexibility, empowering my work-life harmony.
Balance isn’t static; it’s a dynamic equilibrium requiring constant adjustment. I advocate for a holistic approach, valuing mental, physical, and emotional well-being. Encouraging flexible schedules and regular wellness programs fosters productivity and contentment in my opinion. The goal isn’t perfection but a continuous pursuit for equilibrium, creating an environment where individuals flourish both personally and professionally.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Black Health Lit is a pioneering health equity organization committed to improving health for Black Americans. We ignite change through culturally specific health literacy programming, providing education, consulting, and community engagement. Our mission is to lessen disparities by empowering individuals, healthcare providers, and organizations with the knowledge to foster a world with equitable health opportunities.
I am most proud of my ability to persevere through the COVID pandemic, economic downturn, and a breast cancer diagnosis. This was no easy feat and I relied heavily on my mother, sister, family, and friends to stay strong.
Along the way I’ve learned that knowing how to pivot when circumstances change is crucial. This can be remodeling the business plan, improving brand presentation, or offering different services as the industry needs change.
The world should know that Black Health Lit is here to make a difference and be a voice for people who are not in the room, excluded from policy decisions, and most likely to be harmed by all of the above.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
In New Orleans, my week-long adventure blended culture, cuisine, and revelry. I started with Deeny’s Restaurant for authentic Creole flavors, then wandered Frenchmen Street for live jazz at Blue Nile or Snug Harbor. Brunch at the Court of Two Sisters offered delightful ambiance. I also immersed myself in the Mardi Gras spirit with a visit to Blaine Kern’s Mardi Gras World.
During NBA All-Star Weekend, I caught the electrifying games at the Smoothie King Center. Amidst festivities, I explored the Garden District’s historic homes. Savoring beignets at Café du Monde, diving into Cajun cuisine at The Court of Two Sisters all part of the experience.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
