Meet Kay Lyke | DJ, Music Director & Radio Personality

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kay Lyke and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kay, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
Staying consistent and never giving up. Things may not happen when you want them to, but these habits will get you where you want to be.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am currently the music director and night show host for Q102 in Cincinnati, I’m also a DJ & the 2022 Cincinnati DJ Battle Champion. It’s pretty dope I get to talk and play music for a living. My goal was to be the person on the radio entertaining the people letting them know what’s happening, and then also be the person that they can see outside in real life when they go out. wether it’s at a club, charity event, sports game, ect. a tastemaker and vibe creator.
My diversity sets me apart. Being a military child I’ve lived in a bunch of different places and mixed with different cultures. It gives me a huge advantage now. The world we live in today has cultures and music genres mixing like never before. It lets you be more creative.
I started as an intern at iHeartRadio my senior year in college, I used that as my ‘in’ into the industry and worked my moves from there. The hardest part was waiting my turn. When you put the work in you want instant results and it doesn’t always work like that. Be humble and enjoy the journey you’ll get there.
Think we all want to accomplish dope things doing what we love, but you should be giving back in the process. My accomplishments mean nothing if I wasn’t able to help anybody.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Food wise got to hit Amerasia Kung Food, Prime if your feeling fancy. Bengals Sundays are dope, especially when they win its a marathon type of day though so pace yourself. Firework Fridays during Reds season always a good time. The cool thing about the city there’s always something going on food festivals, music festivals, parades, you never know what you’ll get into.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
It takes a village, I’ve had a bunch of radio & DJ friends help me get to where I am today
