We had the good fortune of connecting with Jalen Snowden and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jalen, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I think everyone is born with a purpose, some people naturally solve math problems in their head, some can jump high, I see motion pictures. I was born to tell stories and entertain, I was given an ability that not everyone has so it would be a shame to waste it.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Filmmaking to me comes naturally, I see the movie in my head, I have no idea how to explain it but I can edit the film and score it, all I need is a place to lay down and stare at the ceiling. The films I make are probably not going to reinvent cinema but I do think I’ll be apart of a generation of filmmakers that provide a software update. The stripped down version of most films can only be told so many ways. I love the hero’s journey and like updating classic literature like the odyssey to modern situations. im not reinventing the wheel but I want to put 24 inch rims on it. I’m really excited and proud of being independent, its the easiest it’s ever been to be an independent artist and I can’t wait to take full advantage of it. Making my first film was pretty hard, I had no money and not like a little money, no I had negative bank account multiple times while trying to finish this film, the only way I was able to overcome these problems was lowering my expectations and focusing strictly on story telling. the only thing I want the world to know about me is that everything I do is to entertain and make people smile, life is hard, my goal is to make it not so bad for a few hours

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m an introvert, l’d probably get some food and beer and hang out and laugh. I like dive bars so probably would hit a dive bar and then get Skyline late night and go to bed with a smile on my face.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mother, who also stars in my film “A BAD, BAD DAY” worked in insurance since I was born, im 27 now so at least two decades. One day she took the biggest risk of her life and decided to cash in her 401k and open up a Pizza Shop right after the pandemic. She bet on herself and it has paid off, if not for her doing that I may never have rolled my own dice and put all efforts into my first film.
