Meet Shay Davis | Freelance Journalist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Shay Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shay, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
The most essential thing I’ve done as a parent is to be the most influential and impactful role model my children can look up to. My decisions in life haven’t stopped me from making plans for the future. I’m proud that they have an inspiration in their lives who is making a positive and helpful contribution to society. My children take great satisfaction in the fact that I’m a journalist and that I made history as a woman of color.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Hi most proud of the impactful feedback I received from the community. Anytime there’s a media opportunity I be the first person people recommend. I’ll be overwhelmed with the love receive. It was very easy for me because I am relatable and I make people feel comfortable enough to talk to me about anything. On and off the record. People welcome me with open arms because of the work I put in.
The biggest lesson I learned along the way is not everybody going to like you. Being media a lot of people stereotype how we act, talk and will do anything to make a story for Clickbait. People had to actually learn that I’m not your typical Journalist. A lot of people find that out when they meet me in person but I can’t change the mind of others that have they’re set view on news. So the lesson I learned is not liked by everyone.
I want the world to know that I’’m very essential to the media world and I’m going to be as big as Oprah. I want them to know my story is the same as every little black girl that survive the south side living in poverty. And my brand ShayTuned is going to takeoff! I will be successful in life.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My best friend is a fun person just like me. So I would take her somewhere fun, like bowling alley or skating, we can go to topgolf, or a Dave n Busters. Mainly activities that are fun. We were randomly try out restaurants that has a five star rating because we got to eat. Try new things. The most exciting things to check out is places people recommend that are amazing to visit.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would want to thank the companies that allowed me to be authentic and share my work. I’m with 330ToGo, and they are extremely helpful to me and encouraging in whatever I undertake! Fantastic team that always supports me in all I do.
The Akron Beacon Journal has provided me with the platform to demonstrate my journalistic writing abilities. Forever grateful to them.
I was contacted by Dani Wright, who offered me the chance to host a show called “Women in the League” on the GCAC network. I’ve stepped into sports because of her. She offers me advice on how to handle myself with my own show. She thinks well and highly of me. When needed, serve as a mentor to me!
In my vision, Chris Gunther is a mentor. When my job hits a rough point, he helps me not just with things to partake in but also with guidance being a freelancer. In addition to Silk Berry as well, these two significant individuals consistently provide me with opportunity to excel as a journalist.
