Meet Anita Chiu | Violinist/Pianist/Performer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Anita Chiu and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Anita, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
“To send light into the darkness of men’s hearts – such is the duty of the artist” – Robert Schumann
We often question the purpose of music, what does it do, what good can it do. I truly believe that music is the common language that requires no words to be said. This quote has supported me throughout my career.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
If I am asked to look back at what I did to maintain my career, I think I was never afraid of taking on challenges. Many things I know how to do now, I didn’t learn them in school. And through these challenges, I started to equip myself with more skills that many other musicians aren’t able to do. Of course I always appreciate the opportunities presented to me, but I also thank myself for stepping out of comfort zone.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Downtown Columbus is a lovely place to visit during the day. I always bring my friends to the river, simply enjoying the view, or with a pastry from shops in the area. There are many coffee shops in town as well, and each one of them presents themselves in unique way that no other shops can do.
Of course, as a musician, I would always bring to the concerts, recitals, shows, ballets and plays. There are just too many entertainments to choose from.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I had a dear friend back in college who is also a violinist. Her playing was what inspired me the most to continue pursuing this career in music. If I didn’t experience that back then, I probably wouldn’t continue down this road to where I am today.
So I think this person, Yu-Chin Huang, deserves a great amount of gratitude!
