We had the good fortune of connecting with Danny Russo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Danny, how do you think about risk?
Oh, risk? I think of it as the secret spice that makes life and career way more interesting! Imagine if everything was safe and predictable—yawn, right? In my world of interior design, risk is like adding a splash of unexpected color to a room; it’s what turns something ordinary into something extraordinary.

Taking risks has been like opening doors to adventures I didn’t even know I wanted. Whether it’s trying out a wild design idea or diving into a new project that’s a bit out of my comfort zone, risks keep things exciting. Sure, not every risk turns out exactly as planned (hello, creative chaos!), but that’s where the magic happens. You learn, you grow, and sometimes, you stumble upon something amazing that you wouldn’t have found if you’d just played it safe.

In a way, risks have been like plot twists in the story of my career—unexpected, a little nerve-wracking, but oh-so-rewarding when they work out. They’ve helped me carve out my own unique path, stay ahead of the curve, and create designs that are anything but boring. So yeah, risks are my secret ingredient, and I wouldn’t have it any other way!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Ah, my art—where do I even begin? My work is all about pushing boundaries and creating spaces that are as unique as the people who inhabit them. What sets me apart is my fearless approach to design. I love to mix unexpected elements, play with bold colors, and break a few rules along the way. It’s about creating environments that tell a story, reflect personality, and make people feel something special when they walk into a room.

One of the things I’m most proud of is my ability to take risks with design and have those risks pay off in ways that resonate with my clients. Seeing their reactions when they see their space transformed—that’s what fuels my passion. I’m always excited about the next project, the next challenge, the next opportunity to create something that hasn’t been seen before.

But getting here? It definitely wasn’t easy. The path was filled with challenges, from finding my own voice in a crowded industry to managing the ups and downs that come with running a business. I’ve had my share of sleepless nights, but I’ve always believed in the power of perseverance and creativity. Overcoming these challenges has taught me resilience, the importance of staying true to myself, and the value of surrounding myself with people who believe in my vision.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that success isn’t just about talent—it’s about persistence, adaptability, and the willingness to keep going even when things get tough. I want the world to know that my brand is all about innovation, passion, and creating spaces that aren’t just beautiful but meaningful. My story is one of taking risks, embracing challenges, and always striving to push the envelope in design. It’s been a wild ride, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh, a week in Columbus? Buckle up because we’re about to have a blast! Columbus has so much to offer, and I’d make sure my best friend gets the full experience.

Day 1: Welcome to Columbus!

Morning: We’d kick things off with brunch at Fox in the Snow Cafe. Their pastries are to die for, and the vibe is the perfect introduction to the city.

Afternoon: A stroll through the Short North Arts District is a must. We’d check out the local galleries, boutiques, and street art. Maybe even pop into The Wexner Center for the Arts to soak in some contemporary art.

Evening: Dinner at The Pearl—a cool, rustic tavern with fantastic seafood and craft cocktails. We’d end the night with drinks at Lincoln Social Rooftop, enjoying views of the city skyline.

Day 2: Explore the Outdoors

Morning: We’d head to Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens for a peaceful start. It’s a stunning place, and their butterfly garden is pure magic.

Afternoon: Time for some outdoor adventure at Scioto Mile. We’d rent bikes and cruise along the riverfront, then maybe a quick visit to the Columbus Museum of Art.

Evening: A casual dinner at BrewDog Franklinton—great craft beer and a laid-back atmosphere. We could even take a tour of their brewery!

Day 3: Discover German Village

Morning: A leisurely breakfast at Pistacia Vera in German Village. Their pastries are legendary!

Afternoon: We’d wander the charming brick streets, visit The Book Loft (a maze-like bookstore you could get lost in for hours), and stop by Schiller Park for a bit of relaxation.

Evening: Dinner at Lindey’s—a Columbus institution with an elegant vibe and incredible food. A post-dinner cocktail at Curio is the perfect way to wrap up the day.

Day 4: A Taste of History and Culture

Morning: A trip to the Ohio Statehouse for a dose of history and some stunning architecture.

Afternoon: We’d head to North Market for lunch—a foodie’s paradise with an array of local vendors. Afterward, a visit to the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is a must, especially if they’re an animal lover.

Evening: Dinner at Hyde Park in the Short North, followed by some live music at Natalie’s Coal-Fired Pizza and Live Music.

Day 5: Dive Into the Local Scene

Morning: Breakfast at NorthStar Cafe. Afterward, we’d visit COSI (Center of Science and Industry), which is fun for all ages.

Afternoon: Shopping at Easton Town Center—a mix of high-end stores and unique boutiques. We’d also catch a movie at their luxurious theater.

Evening: Dinner at Marcella’s for some delicious Italian fare, then off to see a show at the Palace Theatre or catch some stand-up comedy at Funny Bone Comedy Club.

Day 6: Food, Art, and Entertainment

Morning: We’d start the day at Fox in the Snow again (because once is not enough), then explore the galleries at the Wexner Center for the Arts.

Afternoon: Lunch at Hot Chicken Takeover for some spicy, southern-style fried chicken. In the afternoon, we’d visit The Otherworld, an immersive art experience that’s totally mind-blowing.

Evening: Dinner at Wolf’s Ridge Brewing, where the food is as good as the beer. Afterward, we could catch a concert at Kemba Live! if there’s a good show happening.

Day 7: Relax and Reflect

Morning: A relaxed breakfast at Fox in the Snow (third time’s the charm!), then a visit to Topiary Park to see the life-sized topiary sculptures.

Afternoon: We’d spend the afternoon at Easton Town Center for some last-minute shopping or maybe a spa day at The Woodhouse Day Spa to unwind after a busy week.

Evening: For the final dinner, we’d go all out at Jeff Ruby’s—a sleek spot with killer interiors. We’d finish the trip with drinks at Watershed Kitchen & Bar, where the cocktails are as creative as they are delicious.

Columbus has this incredible blend of arts, culture, food, and fun, and I’d make sure my best friend experiences the best of it all. By the end of the week, they’d be as in love with the city as I am!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Alright, let’s dive into it! If I had to dedicate a shoutout, I’d have to give credit to the entire army of designers and friends who’ve walked this crazy, creative road with me. Honestly, it would feel distasteful to single out any one person, book, or organization because so many have played a part in my journey. You know that saying, “It takes a village to raise a child”? Well, I’m convinced it takes even more to become Danny Russo!

Every step of the way, I’ve been lifted up by a community that’s shared their wisdom, their support, and sometimes just a good laugh when I needed it most. From mentors who guided me to clients who believed in my vision, to the design community that keeps me inspired—each has left their mark on my story. So this shoutout is for all of them, the unsung heroes who’ve helped shape my path. I wouldn’t be where I am today without every single one of them!
