Meet Seth Clark | Tattoo artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Seth Clark and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Seth, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success and the success of my brand is the people. My clients, family, friends—anyone who has ever supported me or pushed me to keep going—are the foundation of everything I’ve built. I truly couldn’t do it without them, and their belief in me is what drives me forward every day. If I had to get specific I’d say my mentor Dennis Boseman has helped me most with business and life skills as well as pushing me to be greater. Along with my girlfriend, clients and family supporting me throughout all of my ventures. I’m very grateful for the people that have helped me get to where I am and that will help me get to where I’m going.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Hi, I’m Seth Clark, a tattoo artist specializing in fineline blackwork, black and grey, and Neo-traditional styles. My work is dedicated to supporting individuals who are healing from trauma and personal struggles. Having faced my own challenges, I understand the importance of creating a safe, welcoming space where clients can open up without fear of judgment. My goal is to craft art that not only complements each person’s skin but also reflects their journey—tattoos that empower, inspire, and encourage personal growth.
My own path has required a great deal of personal growth, and I know I still have further to go. In 2021, I actually quit tattooing because it became overwhelming, and my mental health suffered. During that time, I worked various jobs, mainly in a warehouse where the conditions were poor, and we were treated as numbers, not people. I reached the lowest point in my life, feeling like a zombie with no hope in sight.
That period forced me to examine my life and commit to change. I knew tattooing and creating art was my calling, so I spent my days working and my nights drawing, gradually rebuilding my purpose. I also started going to the gym, getting into the best shape of my life, which helped me overcome my depression. Eventually, Dennis welcomed me back into his shop, and I worked part-time at a local pizza job while completing my apprenticeship. After that, I became a full-time artist, and everything aligned as I had planned.
As the quote goes, “The struggle you’re in today is developing the strength you need for tomorrow.” We all have a choice: struggle now to build the life we want, or struggle later by settling for what we’ve accepted. I chose to transform my career and my lifestyle, and you can too. It’s not easy, and it’s not always the popular path, but I’d rather face the pain of progress today than the pain of regret tomorrow.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my friend were visiting, I’d start by taking them to Nobility Tattoo in Austintown, Ohio, where we could hang out and maybe even get some tattoo work done. For dinner, we’d head to one of my two favorite spots: Risi Pizzeria & Italian Cuisine which is owned by Joe Risi or Gionino’s Pizza in Austintown. Both offer the some of the best pizza and Italian food in the area, in my opinion.
For fun, we’d either go bowling at McKinley Lanes in Niles or catch a movie at the Regal Theater. If they needed a haircut, I’d take them to Spades and Fades Barbershop in Warren, owned by Alex Caldwell. And if their car needed a clean after a long trip, we’d stop by Chambers’ Detailing, owned by Shawn Chambers, to get it looking sharp.
To wrap up the day, we’d hang out with some friends at Crawdaddies Pressure Washing and Beautification, owned by Randy Crawford Jr. It’s always a great way to end the day with good company and good vibes.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give special recognition to my mentor and friend, Dennis Boseman. He introduced me to the world of tattooing, helping me fulfill a lifelong dream, and I can’t imagine where I’d be today without his guidance. Dennis has always pushed me to grow, especially when I’ve gotten too comfortable or stagnant. He’s been there for every milestone—my first tattoo, my first convention, and so many other key moments in my journey as an artist. Despite my portfolio not being the strongest at the start, he welcomed me into his shop and played a significant role in shaping me into the tattoo artist I am today. I will always be grateful for his support.
In addition to Dennis, I owe much of my success to the unwavering encouragement of my loved ones. My girlfriend, Alycee Holley, my mother, Heather Clark, my great-grandmother, Pamela Thornsberry, and the rest of my family have been constant sources of strength, especially during moments when I’ve doubted myself.
One resource that was transformative for me as an artist was the book Steal Like an Artist. It helped me push through the toughest creative block of my career, and I highly recommend it to any artist facing similar struggles.
Finally, I want to thank my supporters and clients, especially those who believed in me in the early days, even when I didn’t fully believe in myself. Success isn’t achieved alone; it requires a team. That’s just one of the many invaluable lessons I’ve learned from Dennis. Thank you to everyone who has ever given me even the smallest bit of support. None of this would be possible without you.
