Meet Autumn Brown | Entrepreneur & DIY Creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Autumn Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Autumn, how do you think about risk?
“And suddenly you know it’s time to start something new and trust the magic of New Beginnings!” -unknown
I came across this quote in 2021. It moved me spiritually, opening my mind up to the idea of simply going for what I wanted and dreamt of having for myself and my son. It was all about taking a risk and betting on myself. Making that leap from Fearfulness to Faithfulness. I knew that by trusting in God once i took this risk the reward would be even greater!
I’ve always taken “safe calculated risks,” but this time would be the biggest yet. I took a risk of leaving a secure job & home, with great benefits, doing what I love and graduated college for, as a Teacher’s Coach. To move to a new city with no job, no place to live, and all of my belongings packed in my truck with my son to risk a dream come true of being a successful entrepreneur working side by side with my best friend serving underprivileged youth.
Taking that risk changed my life! It pushed me out of my comfort zone and challenged me to show up for myself in ways i wasn’t sure that I could. Three years later I am what i sought out to be…a successful entrepreneur. I’m now able to help others who are aspiring to do the work I do and help them reach their goals.
In taking that initial risk it also opened me up to my creative side. Which inspired me to start a DIY/balloon art and design business. Thus A Prime Event Designs was birthed where we believe that every celebration deserves to be extraordinary!
My advice would be when you feel that undeniable nudge no matter what you think is stacked up against you, take that leap and believe it’s already done!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Growing up I’ve always had a passion for being a leader and with that comes knowing how to teach those around you. My mother and grandmother raised us to be leaders and encouraged us to think for ourselves not following the trends of life.
That took on a life of its own in my brain because it pushed me to always be authentic. This is what makes me stand apart from others in all that I do. So when I began talking with my friend and now business partner about opening up a group home for adolescent females I knew exactly where I would fit in. She already had the framework and I knew how to add in the missing pieces. From there, we’ve worked as a wonderful team together.
My passion for teaching alongside her passion for seeing a need and understanding how to fulfill that need has created a true GEM in the community. We strive to help develop and produce successful young ladies, who have a grasp of education, respect for themselves and others, understand the value of life and utilize the tools acquired through the program to function independently.
Once a youth competes our program at GEMS Group Home, we know they will be able to transition efficiently into the world with knowledge and life skills. The care and detailed dedication that we put into each youth is what sets GEMS apart from others.
This has been a long challenging journey to come into this field doing things differently than most group homes but it has been tremendously rewarding. For myself especially, raising a young man as a single mother, moving to a new city starting from scratch, working a full time job as a Teacher and running a group home full time.
Through it all I’ve learned to keep pushing and keep the faith. I now know that God doesn’t just place you where you belong he places you where you can grow!
I’ve been able to grow in many ways. One of which I’ve tapped into my creative side and even stared my own business as a DIY creator and balloon artist! This passion fuels my creativity and gives me a sense of peace and joy when the group home life may get a little busy! I’m still in the early development stages but A Prime Event Designs LLC is my baby and I’m so proud of myself for taking yet another risk on myself doing what I love!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m still feeling my way around the city but I would recommend going to eat at One Eleven Flavor House for dinner, if you want good wings and fries check out The front row bar and grille, you can grab a great veggie pizza from Oregon express. If you’re looking for drinks and good vibes go visit Bozacks, Taste, and The reserve on third! If you want to go for a walk or take your kids on an adventure go down to Riverscape!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have to give all glory, honor and praise to God & my spiritual team! I have high faith and trust in knowing that all things are possible with God!
I have to shout out my Mother & Grandmother who have been pillars in my growth and development as a woman.
Shoutout to Tianisha & Shayna my two big sisters who have helped me grow in so many ways especially business wise.
Lastly, shoutout to my son Marcus. Being blessed with him has given me all the motivation and inspiration that I need to continuously push forward. I not only live for me but for him. He is so supportive of me and is there asking all the questions, wanting to help in any way possible and giving me encouragement along the way. If for nothing else in this world I want Marcus to know his mother did all she could to put him on top and in places he’s always dreamed of being. I am showing him anything is possible!
