Meet Mel And Ali | Owners and Creators of Need Want Wear Share – a subscription box for the “every mom”

We had the good fortune of connecting with Mel And Ali and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mel and Ali, do you disagree with some advice that is more or less universally accepted?
People always say not to mix business and friendship. We wholeheartedly disagree with that statement. Being best friends and in business together is the reason it works. We trust each other, we know our strengths and weaknesses, always have someone to bounce ideas off of and divide and conquer the workload together. Ying and Yang! Plus who better to spend this much time with then your best friend.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Need Want Wear Share is a quarterly subscription box for the “every mom”. Think of it as a grown up goody bag, a treat for mamas everywhere for all of the hard work they do. We curate 4 items in each box: something you need, something you want, something to wear and something to share.

Being a mother is all encompassing and is impossible to label. We noticed other subscription boxes were for: the crunchy mom, the crafty mom, the techie mom, the urban mom, the sporty mom etc…and we didn’t fit into just one box. 𝐍𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐖𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐖𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐞 is for “the every mom”.

Because of our love for Columbus we use local, small business vendors as much as possible and always drive the business directly back to them. At least one item per box is always locally sourced from Columbus.

This business came about during the Pandemic as a way to help moms find balance and treat themselves. Has it been easy? NO! Has it been worth it? YES! We have learned a lot along the way and the biggest lesson we have learned…is to always follow our gut. When we are unsure of the right thing to do always, always trust your first instinct. It’s proven to be true time and time again. We go round and round with things and always end up right where we started.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If they were here for a week we would take them to all our favorite spots. Columbus has so much to offer! From restaurants, to metro parks, shopping, arts/theater and more.

We would hit the local food halls – Little Grand Market, North Market, Center Street Market, East Market, Budd Dairy Hall.

Visit some breweries – Henmick, Nocterra, BrewDog, North High Brewing, Land Grant are some of our favs.

Stroll around German Village, Grandview and Short North for some one of a kind boutiques and definitely don’t skip the Book Loft.
