Meet Adam | Live Event Organizer & Promoter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Adam and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Adam, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I have been involved in electronic music promotion in various small roles since 2018. My passion began when I started attending EDM shows with my older brother in my home area of Baltimore, Maryland. After graduating from Ohio University in 2022 and moving to Columbus, I knew I wanted to try and start something independently within the electronic dance music scene. Being in a new area and not knowing many people in the local community, it motivated me to try and expand my knowledge of the business side of the music industry to build a community around music and art that excites me and hopefully others around me.
Ever since I was a kid, I have always been entrepreneurial and loved starting little “businesses”. I can remember finding these little toy things that were slingshots of sorts with this projectile that you would shoot into the air, and it had this light that would make the wings glow and would flutter back to the ground. I found this website that would let me buy bulk packages of these trinkets, and I would go to local sporting events in my hometown and sell them so that I could buy toys and cool lacrosse equipment.
I want to say that starting a business has alway been more or less inevitable for me. Being passionate about electronic dance music since I was a teenager made it easy to focus my efforts around building a business promoting and community around electronic music.
What should our readers know about your business?
We are an event promotion company focused on electronic dance music marketing and event organization. We host touring acts from across the country and give them a place to display their amazing art to our local audience.
What I believe sets us apart are the acts that we collaborate on and the unique production that we try to use for our events. We strive to bring acts that are more centered in lesser-known genres of electronic dance music such as glitch-hop, halftime, drum and bass, and dubstep. For production, we like to enhance the visual art aspect of our events and will often use different forms of projection mapping to make the art and music come alive for our patrons. We are working on a few different unique projects we cannot wait to announce. The project I am most excited about is an audio & visual experience Columbus has yet to see hosted at the Center of Science and Industry (COSI).
Alchemy Sessions is still a young company, coming up on three years of operating this summer. I do believe there are still many challenges I have yet to encounter, but getting to where we are now was most definitely not easy. The music promotion business is very cutthroat and can be very hard to break into without any prior contacts in the market in which you are trying to establish yourself. Competition and other factors can make or break your events and the longevity of what we are trying to do. To overcome a lot of these challenges, we found it important to stay true to our mission and goals while doing the most to open our network and work with other like-minded groups and companies in the area. This has helped us grow our brand and establish great relationships with other, more tenured companies in Columbus.
What I want the world to know about Alchemy Sessions is that while we may be young, we are here to stay and provide many more amazing events to come in Columbus and beyond!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Hmmm, this is a tough one, but I would say we would have to go the Goodale Park and take a nice walk or bring some amazing local food. Then, take a visit to Other Worlds, go to some of the different trails with waterfalls like Hayden Falls park, and definitely need to catch a show at The Summit Music Hall. For food and drinks, we are going to have to hit Pins and 16 bit, Ohio Brewing Co, Dirty Franks, Crunchwerks, and explore Budd Dairy Food Hall.
There is still so much to this city I need to explore myself, so honestly, even just picking a random thing to do and just seeing where the wind takes us is always a great day in my book.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are quite a few people I would like to give a shoutout to, if that’s okay.
I am grateful to my family: my Mom (Kris), Dad (Dave), and Brother and his Wife (Ben & Alex) for teaching me the value of hard work & dedication, always giving me advice when I need it, and encouraging me to always do the best I can in whatever I pursue.
My mentors and colleagues, Rob Chafin, Josh Goldfarb, and Derek Petrucci, for believing in me and my ideas, helping me learn new ways and ideas to be creative and successful in this industry, and helping me learn the value of “No”. I am forever appreciative of you, gentlemen. Thank you for being amazing role models.
My team: Aubrey Masters, Stormie Rothan, James Houstian, and my wonderful girlfriend, Katherine Olmsted. Thank you for keeping me sane and always being there when I needed it. We wouldn’t be where we are without your hard work and passion.
Finally, to all of the patrons and fans who come to our events, THANK YOU! You are the core of everything we do, and it is an honor that you choose to spend your night with us and get lost in the music and art.
