We had the good fortune of connecting with Adama Diallo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Adama, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
My journey began a few years ago when I started working at a secondhand retail store. This experience allowed me to shop affordably and experiment with my style while exposing me to the vibrant world of thrifting and reselling.

As my interest grew, I started exploring local thrift stores, turning it into a beloved hobby. I’d grab an iced coffee, put on my headphones, and spend hours sifting through racks. The diverse pieces I collected, both from my job and thrift adventures, enabled me to create countless outfits. Sharing my thrift finds and the outfits I created from them on Instagram resulted in friends complimenting my style and asking where I sourced specific items.

As I continued to find more pieces while thrifting, I realized I didn’t need everything I discovered. My style was evolving, and I knew others were interested in my wardrobe. One day, I had a realization during a conversation with a friend: I could share these unique finds with others. After a closet cleanout, I decided to launch ABBGCloset.

This venture allowed me to elevate my personal style and build confidence, inspiring me to help others do the same. Living by the motto “look good, feel good,” I aimed to create a brand that embodies this idea while empowering others in their fashion journeys.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Growing up in NYC, my love for drawing, coloring, and playing dress-up made it clear that a creative career was my calling. The dynamic environment of New York taught me the importance of adaptability. The fast-paced fashion scene can be overwhelming, and while I was fortunate to connect with diverse individuals, I often felt at risk of getting lost in the crowd.

Moving to Columbus, OH, provided a slower pace that allowed me to develop my business and grow from my mistakes. As I became involved in Columbus’s fashion community, I discovered a close-knit and motivating network where everyone pursues their aspirations. Hearing their stories reassured me that few people have everything figured out at the beginning. Every journey is filled with challenges and learning experiences, and that shared path is truly inspiring.

I’ve often struggled to verbalize my thoughts and feelings, finding it easier to express myself visually. A career in fashion allows me to showcase my talents without relying too much on words. When I receive something as a simple as a compliment on my outfit, it validates my personal expression and makes me feel appreciated. It’s gratifying to know my style resonates with others.

When clients seek my personal shopping services or request styling assistance, I feel honored that they trust me to help them look and feel their best. I find having a creative career incredibly fulfilling and limitless, with endless possibilities for exploration and growth.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Since moving to Columbus, I’ve found a few places I really enjoy. I may not be the best tour guide, but here’s my itinerary:

First, we could grab brunch at Drunch Eatery in Italian Village—I love their steak and eggs. After that, we can walk up North High Street in the Short North to explore the vibrant artwork and clothing stores. I definitely recommend stopping by Sole Classics to check out their cool sneakers and apparel; I get a lot of my sneakers from there.

If we want coffee or quick bites, I’d suggest Tous Les Jours for their amazing croissants and caramel macchiatos, Belle’s Bread for their amazing spicy tuna bread rolls; I can probably eat like 10 of them in one sitting, or Crème De La Crème for their delicious peach turnovers.

Of course, no day would be complete without visiting a few thrift stores. If my friend is up for it, we could check out the Goodwill Outlet, also known as “The Bins,” for some thrifted treasure finds.

Around sunset, we could head to Bridge Park in Dublin to enjoy the view and walk across the bridge. For the evening, catching a movie at Marcus Crosswoods would be fun—especially on $6 Movie Tuesdays, where you get free popcorn with your ticket. To wrap up the night, we can stop at Qahwah House in Downtown Columbus for some mango and strawberry refreshers. It’s usually busy, but I don’t mind; they have indoor and outdoor seating, and they’re open until midnight on weekends (sometimes even later if it’s busy).

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a shout-out to everyone who has supported and inspired me along the way: my family, including my parents, siblings, and cousins; my friends; and even the strangers who have become friends. I also want to recognize anyone I’ve crossed paths with who has made an impact on my life. Their encouragement, love, and support have truly shaped who I am today, and I wouldn’t be where I am without them.
