Meet Alex Johnson | Actor, Writer, Producer, and Mascot

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alex Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alex, what makes you happy? Why?
Working on the set of a film. Whether it’s acting, directing, running boom, there’s nothing that fills me with joy quite like being on the set of a film. It’s a magical place and I’ve been lucky enough to work with amazing people on every set I’ve been on.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Absolutely! I am an Actor/Writer and I have primarily been working with Alysm Films. I am used to doing just about anything it takes to make a production work, aside from holding the camera. I leave that to people way more qualified and with way steadier hands than myself! The way I look at it, whatever it takes to make a film the best it can be, in going to do. Because there’s nothing like looking back in satisfaction and seeing the results of your hard work on screen. I got incredibly lucky to find similarly driven and passionate people to work on films with. More than almost any other creative medium film (almost always) requires a lot of talented and amazing people all bringing their respective unique skills to the table to make a film happen, and I consider myself incredibly lucky to have met other people who are just as determined to create the best in whatever film they make.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The absolute #1 place they need to go, if they haven’t, is to Otherworld. I have such a soft spot for that place and I love the way it changes and evolves every time I go. It’s always awesome to show people we have something that dope here in Columbus. .
For food, I’d take them to Hiro Ramen. There are tons of amazing ramen places in the city and you really can’t go wrong taking them to any of them, but the novelty of seeing the robots taking your food and bringing it to you is so cool and unique.
In terms of drinks/hanging out, Pins is always a good place. There are so many of them here for a reason, they’re a great place to take a group of friends.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are a lot of people who deserve a shoutout, primarily everyone I’ve worked with as an extension of Alysm Films, including Tom Angeletti, Robert Morris, Maya Ahmed, Paige Hoover, William Stanley, Mark Murtha, Timothy Cox, and Jared Acker. I also owe it to my close friends Bryn Kasson and Ben Homan for helping me make films before I worked with Alysm, where the scripts were haphazardly written sometimes as wee were filming them, and yet they (rarely) complained.
And I also owe it to Mike Colletti for allowing me to be a mascot for TORG Gaming Expo, which has helped tremendously with my ability to perform in front of a crowd.
