Meet Alexandra Fox | Owner, Baker, & Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexandra Fox and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexandra, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
From my earliest memories, the idea of creating delectable treats through baking held a special place in my heart. Baking has been a lifelong passion of mine. This enduring love for baking naturally led me to pursue an artistic and creative career at Willow Tree Cupcakes.
I can vividly recall the joy I felt as a child when I mixed ingredients, watched them transform in the oven, and added my creative touches to each creation. Baking isn’t just a skill I developed; it’s a part of who I am.
Pursuing a career in the world of cupcakes was a way of turning a lifelong passion into a fulfilling vocation. Baking, for me, is more than just a job; it’s a labor of love that brings me joy and satisfaction beyond measure.
My journey with baking has allowed me to connect with others who share the same passion. It’s about crafting cupcakes that not only taste amazing but also reflect the artistry and dedication that have been with me since childhood. Willow Tree Cupcakes is the realization of a dream, where the love for art and baking come together to create something truly special.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
At Willow Tree Cupcakes, my journey in the world of baking is illuminated by a profound love of crafting edible works of art. I take immense pride in the hand-drawn cupcake toppers, each one requiring an astonishing 24+ hours of intricate work for just a dozen cupcakes. These toppers are a testament to my unwavering dedication to adding a personal touch to every order.
In addition to my hand-drawn cupcake toppers, my hand-piped buttercream flowers are a hallmark of my brand. Each delicate petal is meticulously piped, transforming my cupcakes into miniature gardens. These intricate designs reflect my passion for elevating the artistry in baking.
What truly distinguishes me, however, are my unique flavors. I never settle for the ordinary. Instead, I constantly experiment with flavor combinations that astonish and delight our customers. Whether it’s a fusion of unexpected ingredients like Cotton Candy or the excitement of the upcoming flavors like Eggnog and Oatmeal Cookie or a classic taste with a twist like Pumpkin Latte, my cupcakes are a canvas of creativity.
Professionally, my journey has been characterized by a passion for innovation, though it hasn’t been without its challenges. One significant obstacle I’ve faced is managing a business while dealing with health problems. I think It’s a testament to my determination and resilience in ensuring that Willow Tree Cupcakes continues to flourish despite these challenges.
Overcoming these obstacles has been a journey of adaptation and finding ways to manage my health while pursuing my passion. I’ve learned to lean on the support of my family, friends, and mentors like who have provided invaluable guidance and encouragement.
What I’d love the world to know about Willow Tree Cupcakes is that it’s more than a mere bakery; it’s a heartfelt endeavor fueled by my deep love for baking and the artistry it entails. My cupcakes are born from meticulous craftsmanship and a profound connection with my customers. I warmly invite everyone to indulge in the joy of savoring the artistry, the flavors, and the unwavering dedication that embody Willow Tree Cupcakes.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh where do I begin! There’s so many to list but, If my best friend were visiting, I’d want them to savor the local flavors and enjoy the art and culture of the area. Our day would start with the BEST breakfast at Water Main Grille, offering a taste of local cuisine in a charming setting.
We’d then venture to the F.A. Seiberling Nature Realm in Akron, a natural haven with serene trails and an abundance of local flora and fauna to explore. They have a beautiful flower garden in the summer.
To appreciate Ohio’’s artistic heritage, a visit to the renowned Cleveland Museum of Art would be on the agenda, immersing us in a world of artistic treasures.
For a creative and fun experience, we’d head to All Fired Up in Fairlawn, to unleash our inner artists.
Lunch would be a memorable affair at 17 Public Square in Medina, offering amazing, locally sourced house-made food. Where they have quite literally the best Mac and cheese I’ve ever eaten!
We would grab a candy apple from Candyapple & Co. in Medina then do some retail therapy retail at CopperBend Boutique, in Wadsworth. They have the cutest collection of clothes and Samantha is the sweetest!
The day would culminate with a mouthwatering dinner at The Foundry Social in Medina, known for its delicious menu and the added fun of games to enjoy while dining.
These are just a few of the places I’d take my best friend to ensure they experience the best of the area.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
In my journey with Willow Tree Cupcakes, I’ve been fortunate to have incredible individuals and local businesses that have played a pivotal role in my success. First and foremost, I want to dedicate a heartfelt shoutout to my husband, Jim. His unwavering support, encouragement, and belief in my baking passion have been my anchor throughout this creative endeavor.
I’d also like to extend my gratitude to some amazing local business friends who have been instrumental in helping me grow. Emily Duncan of Slam Duncan Real Estate, Kristen McShane of Simply Social Kristen, Jenny Young of She Did It Videography, and many, many more have provided valuable advice, inspiration, and friendship. They’ve not only contributed to the growth of Willow Tree Cupcakes but have also enriched my entrepreneurial journey.
I also want to give a big shoutout to my cherished customers. Their trust, support, and appreciation have been the heart and soul of Willow Tree Cupcakes. It’s through their enjoyment of my cupcakes that my creative journey finds true meaning. Whether it’s for special occasions or everyday indulgences, my customers have been my driving force and the reason for my success.
And last but certainly not least I must acknowledge my entire family. They’ve been a source of constant love, support, and encouragement. From my childhood baking experiments to the launch of Willow Tree Cupcakes, their unwavering belief in me has been a pillar of strength. Without their guidance and belief, this journey wouldn’t have been possible.
The idea of dedicating my shoutout to these wonderful individuals, businesses, and customers came from the realization that success is not a solitary journey. It’s a collaborative effort involving my family, the local community, and the incredible people who enjoy my cupcakes. The support, encouragement, and mentorship I’ve received from these sources have not only shaped the story of Willow Tree Cupcakes but have been the driving force behind its growth. It’s through these connections and their support that I’ve been able to transform my passion for baking into a thriving business, and for that, I am truly grateful.
