We had the good fortune of connecting with Alisha Hayter and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alisha, how do you think about risk?
I’ve learned that growth doesn’t come from playing it safe. If I’m 100% honest, taking risks has always scared me (I’m a rule follower), but it’s also what’s shaped me the most. When I thought about starting Nevaeh Grace, I wasn’t 100% sure it would work. I worried about failing, about what other people would think, about whether I was truly “ready enough.”

But something in me knew that if I didn’t take that leap, I’d always wonder “what if?”and try to figure out when the time was right.

Looking back now, opening Nevaeh Grace was one of the best risks I’ve ever taken. It gave me an incredible community I wouldn’t trade for anything. And yes – some risks lead to failure, but others lead to growth and success in ways you could never imagine until you try.

What should our readers know about your business?
Just be you. There will be hard days – days when you cry and question everything. There will also be days when you feel on top of the world, like you’re exactly where you’re meant to be.

No matter what kind of day it is, never lose sight of who you are and what your mission is. Dreams aren’t meant to be easy – that’s what makes them worth it.

There could be a hundred businesses doing exactly what I do, but no one can replicate me. No one else has my story, my heart, or my purpose – and that’s what sets me apart.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Downtown Salem is the place to be!
Nevaeh Grace first of course! Then we’re going next door to Urban Beauty. Across the street to The OG for brunch. Need some caffeine so we’re hitting up Libs for some coffee. Then Nature+Nuture then finishing off with Kast Iron for ice cream!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
At Nevaeh Grace, my mission is to normalize normal bodies. I want every person who walks into our store or visits our website to leave loving themselves just a little bit more than when they arrived.

My goal is to challenge and break society’s standards of what a “normal” body should look like.

If you’re new here, you might not know this part of my story. Throughout junior high and high school, I struggled endlessly with an eating disorder. There were countless years filled with therapy, psychologist appointments, missing school, battling body dysmorphia, feeling like food was the enemy, and learning to eat again.

But through every single appointment, every hard meal, every breakdown, there was always one person who never left my side – my mom. She was in every waiting room, she helped me through every meal, and she never judged me for my struggles. Instead, she held my hand through it all. She didn’t just play a small part in my recovery; she carried me through it.

This is why Nevaeh Grace exists. To create a space that reminds you that your body is already worthy, just as it is. I promise – if you ever need someone to be in your waiting room, I will be that person.
