Meet Allison Ewing | Wedding & Lifestyle Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Allison Ewing and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Allison, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I was always the girl at middle school dances with multiple disposable cameras and a shot list for the purposes of scrapbooking. After my parents realized I wasn’t going to stop taking photos, they bought me what I lovingly refer to as my “big girl camera”, which was my first DSLR. From there, friends and family started asking me if I would take photos for them. Then in 2014, I officially filed my LLC and began my photography business journey!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m honestly really proud of the business I have built from the ground up. The clients that I have met during my decade in business truly mean the world to me! So many of them come back year after year and have me document some of their biggest milestones in life, and that’s truly such an honor. My clients also refer me to their friends, which always means so much to me. Being a small business owner absolutely has its challenges, but having amazing clients that feel like friends make the hard days more than worth it!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I for sure would take them to downtown Cuyahoga Falls to shop at all the local small businesses on Front Street as well as grab dinner and drinks at one of the numerous spots there! My favorite shops in Cuyahoga Falls are Hope Soap, Jean & Lou and Reverie. For food and drinks, I would say Leo’s, Cashmere Cricket or HiHo Brewing would all be fantastic options! I absolutely love supporting small businesses, so the trip for sure would center around supporting local!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
When I first started my photography business, I knew I needed to find a mentor. I found a local photographer who offered coaching sessions and ended up doing multiple sessions with her so I could learn as much as I could. She also asked me to start second shooting weddings with her, and that was so helpful for learning the ins and outs of a wedding day before taking on my own clients. Carlyn started out as my mentor, but turned into such a great friend along the way!
