We had the good fortune of connecting with Ambrielle Coleman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ambrielle, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
Gettin’ 2 The Bag Podcast was created to shine a positive light on young, Black professionals. We often see people of color in the news for so much negativity, and I wanted to introduce a new narrative. There are SO many creatives and entrepreneurs out there who want to share their stories, so my platform allows them a safe space to be open and honest about their career paths, passions, struggles, and triumphs. My podcast also mixes conversations of professionalism with lifestyle content for a fun, informative interview.

What should our readers know about your business?

BagTalk Enterprises, LLC. is the official monetizing branch for Gettin’ 2 The Bag Podcast. My business focuses on the business aspects of the podcast including, fashion, professional development, and podcast development. We offer podcast consultations for all of those interested in starting a podcast covering things like marketing, podcast, equipment, budgeting, and more! The fashion component allows #BagTalk merch to be sold on our website which is currently in development and scheduled to launch this Spring! Our professional development service includes resume workshops, interview tips, LinkedIn profile building, and more!

BagTalk Enterprises, LLC. is different from other professional development businesses, in my opinion, because it’s the first of its kind. My background is in Human Resources and I’ve worked for various Fortune 500 companies such as Wayfair and Google. We offer instrumental insight on what people need to be successful in corporate America. We also offer consolations on navigating the workplace, for those unfamiliar with corporate etiquette. Our ultimate goal is to equip our clients with all the information and tools needed to secure their bags and elevate their careers!

Developing my business came easy because I used my personal experiences as a guide. In my hardest times on the job, I would ask myself, “How am I supposed to BEST handle this?” Imagine how amazing one could be if one knew exactly how to succeed. Just like any skill, professional development needs coaching and training. It doesn’t happen overnight, but with the proper guidance, we can help develop your skill sets and prepare our clients for the journey ahead.

Although my business is still in the beginning stages, the biggest lesson I’m learning is the importance of knowing yourself- like REALLY knowing yourself. It’s so easy to feel as if you don’t belong, so you start to add or subtract qualities that aren’t true to yourself. Everyone from coworkers to leadership may question your character, especially being a woman of color. Many times, I felt like I was operating outside of myself. Then, I remember who I am. I operate in love and positivity. I want the best for people even if they don’t want the best for me. I’m human, so my feelings are valid, but since I operate from a place of love, I know my intentions are pure. Don’t let people’s perceptions of you change who you are. Know yourself, stay true to YOU, and ALWAYS advocate for yourself.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

I’m originally from Cleveland, OH, but I’m slowly making Columbus my home. I love Summertime in Columbus! There are so many festivals and things to do, so I look forward to the Summer. As of now my absolute favorite place to go is The Kee which is an event space with food, drinks, art, and arcade games. It’s a great vibe for a girl’s night out or date night and they’re always hosting events. My favorite event they hosted was The Black Fashion Expo showcasing local Black designers and creatives. I had the opportunity to work as a Brand Ambassador for this event and had the privilege of networking with so many talented individuals. I’ve been asked to return this year, so I’m excited for round two! Shoutout to Bobby Couch for coordinating this event!

My favorite places to eat are spread throughout the city. Forno, Nada, Lee’s Seafood Boil, and Santos Restaurant & Bar are a few of my staples. I’m a huge foodie, so I’ll try (almost) anything! I’m still navigating Columbus, but exploring the city has been a joy!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to first dedicate my shoutout to my sponsors, Columbus Black and MYLE. Founder and Co-Founder, Kevin and Sherry Lloyd have been instrumental in helping me navigate everything from podcasting to marketing, and I appreciate all of their wisdom. Next, my viewers, listeners, supporters, and followers. You all keep me going, hold me accountable, and accept me as my authentic self. I’m so grateful to have a consistent following who support the podcast. Thank you to my guests who have shared their journeys to the world. You are all so talented and special. Continue to create, motivate, and inspire! I have to shout out my family and friends! Thank you all for your words of encouragement. I’m nothing without your support, love, and care. A special shoutout to my mother, Wanda Coleman, and father, Robert Coleman Jr., for giving me my business, BagTalk Enterprises, LLC. And a special thank you Shoutout Ohio!
