We had the good fortune of connecting with Amy Bauman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amy, what principle do you value most?
Of course a few values come to mind…integrity, authenticity, trust, but the most important and all-encompassing value is trust. I know when I’m looking for someone to work with or in any relationship, I need to have trust in the other person/business. So I feel the same way about showing my clients that they can trust me. That is where those other values of having integrity and being authentic come into play. I mean, how can I possibly expect a client-coach relationship to develop and be beneficial to my clients if they’re holding back because they don’t feel they can trust me?
What should our readers know about your business?
My company is called Your Development Resource. I coach women entrepreneurs/women in business strategies to overcome overwhelm, gain confidence in their business skills, and achieve their goals faster. I work with women in three ways. I offer the Learn. Connect. Support. membership group, which is very collaborative and meets in person (in the central Ohio area.) I offer an online, small group coaching program, called The Success Pod, which helps women through a framework of mindset + focused action + accountability. And I offer one-on-one coaching for that very targeted problem-solving that a client may need, such as social media marketing, getting organized, or learning how to run the business-end of her business.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned along the way and what I’m also most proud of is being of service. Listen, if you don’t make any money in your business you won’t HAVE a business, but for me it’s definitely not all about money. I found that when I focused on financial targets, I became stressed and didn’t enjoy my work. However, when I got back to the “why” and started focusing on serving my clients, the money starts coming in WHILE I’m loving my work. Most recently I was at an event and I had a client tell me that a connection I helped her make has changed her entire future. At the same event, a woman who had taken one of my online workshops a year ago told me that she’s still using what I taught and she loves it! Serving is really what makes Your Development Resource meaningful to me.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The Columbus, OH area has so much to offer…definitely not cows and corn like I’ve heard non-Ohio folks say before!
I love supporting the small town coffee shops north of Columbus (where I live) like Village Coffee and The Coffee Vault. I don’t think any trip to Columbus is complete without taking a LONG walk to sight see The Ohio State University campus. (Bonus if we had tickets to attend a Buckeye football game!) Dinner and walking in the Short North or Grandview offers many unique and funky options. The Columbus Zoo is one of my family’s favorite places to visit, especially between Thanksgiving and New Years for Wildlights. Oh, and the shopping! There is seriously one of everything at Easton, and going to Cooper’s Hawk Restaurant for a wine tasting and dinner before or after shopping at Easton is a must!
These are just some places off the top of my head. There is always so much to do and too little time with all of the festivals, art events, restaurants, etc. that Columbus and central Ohio has to offer.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
“Find your tribe.” I shoutout my Learn. Connect. Support. group members all the time!
I had this idea that women entrepreneurs should have a support group because none of us is sure what we’re doing when we get started (and even after years in business!) I put the idea out to my community and a few ladies were all in. Then they started invited women entrepreneurs/women in business that they know and thought could benefit from the group. I tell them all the time I’m so blessed that I attracted them into my life, and we continue to grow…both in the size of the Learn. Connect. Support. group and our personal and professional development growth. My Learn. Connect. Support. tribe is what keeps me going!
