Meet Amy Youngblood | Founder and Lead Interior Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Amy Youngblood and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amy, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
As a Communications Major with a strong art background in my undergraduate education, I started my career off working for large corporations in the area of sales and marketing. After several years of feeling creatively unfulfilled, I became entranced with the field of interior design and thought it would be a great combination of my skills in sales and art. I then left the corporate world and enrolled in a collegiate interior design program. After that, I worked for several other design firms and realized that I wanted to own my own company as I come from a very entrepreneurial background. I haven’t looked back since!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Amy Youngblood Interiors specializes in high-end residential and commercial design. We separate ourselves in the Cincinnati market as being more modern, sophisticated, and unique in the way we approach projects. Being in a more conservative market, we have clients that seek us out to create and update their space with a modern yet comfortable feel.
Being a business owner is never easy but to me has been worth the risks. One thing thing that so many young interior designers don’t realize in that interior design is more than picking beautiful fabrics and objects. It’s essentially a business like any other that needs to be run with good revenue and profitability in mind, Over the years I have learned to be more selective with the clients I work with and set my boundaries with those I do choose to work with. After all, If it’s not a fun process working with a client, it’s not worth the money!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, we are nestled in the heart of the revitalized OTR in downtown Cincinnati. In OTR, There are endless options in terms of cool bars and restaurants. We also have some great art venues like the Art Museum and the Contemporary Art Center as well as several high end art galleries. As far as neighborhoods, I highly recommend the areas of OTR, Northside, Clifton, Mount Adams, and Hyde Park/Mount Lookout. Also, the area of Price Hill is starting to emerge as a fun, cultural area with views of the city. One of my favorite restaurants is Somm Wine Bar there which is always yummy!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My father who passed away at a young age, was a great influence on me in my formative years. He was an excellent business person, treated his employees like family, was an accomplished athlete, and consistently gave back to the community. I have tried to model much of my career and life in general like his.
