We had the good fortune of connecting with Ann Poirier and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ann, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I’m from Cincinnati, Ohio. I grew up with my mom, my dad and three younger siblings. We were always a close family and loved being together. We grew up in church and went to Catholic schools. Beyond necessarily the Catholicism itself, the faith and belief in God is what always stuck out to me growing up. My parents loved God, trusted Him and worked hard to instill that truth of our Lord God in us kids too. Today, as I raise my own four kids, I look back at that and realize how much it impacted me even now. My faith is still the most important thing in the world to me. I talk to God as if He’s a friend (because He is), and I feel him with me all the time. I aim to teach my kids to know Him and love Him just as my parents did for me.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a special needs advocate in Cincinnati, Ohio.

I got involved in this field seven years ago when I had my daughter Alice and she was diagnosed with Down syndrome. That lit a fire in me to work hard to make a positive difference for her and all those with special needs.

Today, I am on the board of GiGi’s Playhouse Down Syndrome Achievement Center of Cincinnati and I also work part-time for Kingdom Inclusion, a faith-based nonprofit organization that hosts events for teens and adults with special needs.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We live in Milford, Ohio and it has so many amazing places to check out!

If you have kids with you, be sure to visit Scene75, Pin Deck, Recreations Outlet and the Leming House / Community Park.

If you are with an adults-only group, check out The Governor and all of the other amazing restaurants and shops in downtown Milford!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shoutout is dedicated to my parents! Without them, I wouldn’t have the great example they have always given me.
