Meet Antonio Velotta | Celebrity Hairstylist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Antonio Velotta and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Antonio, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I’m from Cleveland, Ohio. and my upbringing in my grandma’s beauty salon Coiffures By Maria during the 80s and 90s has played a significant role in shaping who I am today.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Starting my career as a hairstylist at Bergdorf Goodman in NYC was undoubtedly a challenging journey, but one that I wouldn’t trade for anything. The initial days were tough – countless blowdrys, throbbing wrists, and nights filled with tears. It was a period of paying my dues, a rite of passage into the world of hairstyling.
What I’m most proud of and excited about today is the resilience I found within myself during those difficult times. The path to where I am professionally was far from easy. The challenges I faced were not just physical but also emotional. However, I refused to give up. Each day, I pushed through the difficulties, reminding myself that success often comes after hard work and perseverance.
The lessons learned along the way are invaluable. I discovered the strength that comes from facing challenges head-on, the importance of persistence, and the resilience that develops through adversity. The difficult days at Bergdorf Goodman were a crucial part of my journey, shaping me into the hairstylist I am today.
If there’s one thing I want the world to know about my story, it’s the power of tenacity. No matter how tough the road may seem, with determination and a refusal to give up, incredible things can be achieved. My brand is built on the foundation of hard work, passion, and the belief that challenges are stepping stones to success. I hope my story inspires others to persevere in the face of adversity and to never underestimate the strength they possess within.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Living in the Big Apple is a blast! NYC is a non-stop party with a plethora of exciting activities. When it comes to dining, Ci Siamo, Sant Ambroeus, and Electric Lemon are my top picks. I’m totally enamored with chic cafes scattered throughout the city, especially when they serve up a perfect oat milk cappuccino—just the way I like it, not too hot!
I’m part of this rad 1980s community where we rock 80s attire and frequently gather around the city for epic adventures. Our escapades include dressing up and snapping photos in cool locations. We even hit up Katz’s Deli and got goofy at the “When Harry Met Sally” table—talk about a good time! The WooWoo Lounge in Times Square is my go-to spot, with its awesome 80s theme.
As a vintage enthusiast, I’m constantly on the lookout for treasures in retro shops and, of course, searching eBay for unique finds. Life in NYC is a vibrant tapestry of good food, retro vibes, and unforgettable moments!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to thank the late John Barrett who believed in me, recognized my skills and talents, and consistently pushed me to aim for the best. John’s support was a significant factor in my personal and professional growth. I appreciate the encouragement he provided, and I am thankful for the positive impact he had on my life.
