Meet April Hirschman | Sex and Relationship Coach, Author, and Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with April Hirschman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi April, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
We are in the midst of a sexual revolution and I enjoy finding out more about what gives people pleasure in their lives. I started my own business as a sex and relationship coach to support couples and individuals on their journey.
I am also an author, artist, and dancer and I incorporate creativity into my coaching work. For creativity to bloom I need to not be caught up in a rigid schedule. I don’t fit into a mold and I like the freedom to travel and set my own pace.
So right now I’m coaching and I’m on a book tour for my new memoir Desire Makes Me Brave: A Bisexual Journey from California to the World.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Pleasure comes from being multifaceted. I am a coach, author, yoga teacher, belly dancer, visual artist, film maker, standup comic and more. It’s all about finding creative ways, as a renaissance woman, to get my message across. My fountain pours out in many directions but it all comes from one, creative source. I’m really excited to give talks at colleges and universities encouraging people to celebrate their sexual expression and have the bravery to write their own memoirs.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In the summer time I would take them to swim at the Russian river with a hot bar lunch from Community Market, a worker run grocery store. We would eat Georgian dumplings at Piala restaurant in Sebastopol. I would take them to see the singing trio Copper Wimmin. I would encourage them to sing or try standup comedy in Santa Rosa with the Edgy Open Mic crew. I can be found there most Thursday nights doing standup. Its usually hosted by an amazing singer named Tika Moon. Then I would take them to a yoga or movement class at Soft Medicine Sanctuary/Anahata Yoga Studio and Tea House where I substitute teach yoga.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Celeste Hirschman and Danielle Harel of the The Somatica Institute is where I learned to be a sex and relationship coach. It was truly transformational in how I relate to partners and family, and gave me all the tools I need to coach individuals and couples.
