We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Best and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ashley, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
I’ve always viewed life like this… “if you’re going to do something, go all in, both feet”. Is it risky doing so, absolutely, but I’ve never been one who tip toes around anything. You can never expect anything to work out in your favor if you don’t give 100% of your time & devotion. When it has come to my music career, I’ve always taken risks. The music business in itself is a huge risk. Every song/video I release is a gamble…will it be a hit? Will people like it? You never know until you try!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I think what sets me apart from others is the fact that I do my own thing, my own style. I’m not like the stuff the radio is putting out, I’m original, authentic. I don’t fit into any certain box/mold. It makes it harder for me being different for sure BUT I have to be me…be true to myself & who I am. It’s rough because people wanna request songs at my shows, like I’m a human jukebox, I tell them I’m a Singer/Songwriter. I write my songs and IF I do a cover it is NOTHING like the original…that’s already been heard, I make it my own. I guess the me there are singers & there are artists….singers have the voice and can sing but artists hear things different, create a song different & sing a lil different. That’s why a cover I sing is not like the song you’ve heard, I’m an artist and I create things.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, that’s a no brainer for me…I take them to my farm! When I’m not out doin shows I’m a homebody. I like to stay on the farm. I’d bring them to the farm for breathtaking sunrises/sunsets, quiet, serenity. We can take hikes in the woods, stop by the creek to cool off. Meals would be prepared on the farm with farm fresh eggs from the chickens and all the veggies we’ve grown in the garden, beef from the freezer that we raised and had butchered. At night you’d have a bonfire, roasted marshmallows or smores, maybe a few drinks (if they prefer)and I can sing a few songs, play cornhole, whatever we feel like….it’s the country.
If I had to leave the farm, we could go check out a lil shop called The Cowgirl In Me in town, then a great place to relax and chat is Ohio Valley Winery in town also. If they visit me then I’m sure they already know this is what they’d get and I guarantee they’d LOVE IT!!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The 2 people I have had TOTAL support from always are my wife, Tennille, and my brother, Trent. They pick me up when I get knocked down and have always been and I know they always will be. They are always there for me to run a new song by, or a new idea. The are always honest with me, they will give me honest, no holding back opinions and it makes me strive to get better at what I do, If you can’t take criticism then you don’t belong in the music industry. Learn from it!!
