We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Roper and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ashley, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I pursued an artistic career so i could have more control. I enjoy flexibility in my schedule and the fact that I can go any where and tattoo.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a tattoo artist based out of Cincinnati Ohio. I got my start in tattooing in 2008 freshly graduating from interior design school. I never saw myself tattooing or gave it a thought until a friend asked me why I dont tattoo because I draw a lot. And thats history! Ive been immersing myself into the industry since then. But today is very different than 2008. We have had major technology upgrades. When i started tattooing it was a mostly male dominated industry, also white male. Which it still mostly is but there is a lot more diversity in ownership. I had mostly been in my own studio because of this or trying out various shops to see if it is a good fit for me.
I have spent the last 3 years traveling with a pro team based out of Utah. Working on the tattoo convention circuit. It allowed me to travel and observe other artists. This experience has equipped me with more knowledge and skill than I attained in my tattoo apprenticeship. I wouldnt say its been the hardest for me to get into this industry but it hasnt been easy either. Just have to know your resources and utilize them.
My tattoo name has recently been changed to Rich U Well tattoos Because I offer people creative ways to transmute their pain. I also realized that every tattoo I do is a ritual between my client and I. The experience I offer is curated with intention and love. I really enjoy bringing peoples imagination to life on skin. I tattoo in a broad range of styles from black and grey to high contrast color.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mom. She has always invested in me. From my fascination with rocks, to now. If I didnt have a Corless in my life providing me the necessary tools to experiment and grow. Beyond the material things, she instilled confidence and curiosity into me. If there were any thing I had an interest in she nurtured it in me.
