We had the good fortune of connecting with Ax Stinnett and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ax, why did you pursue a creative career?
These are just my natural talents. I’m just doing what comes organically. Sometimes I express myself in song, and other times I design a t-shirt about what I’m thinking or feeling.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve explored both ends of almost every spectrum you could land on as a creative entrepreneur. I’ve been a registered LLC and worked as a sole proprietor without the LLC. I’ve sold my art online, in stores, and even made drops in parking lots. One thing I’ve learned is that there is no “one right way” to do any of this. Everything is unique to the artist, and there isn’t an easy shortcut to success. I’ve never been good at separating the art from the artist, so as an artist myself I try to keep my focus on being the best human I can be first and foremost.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There are quite a few local music venues to visit, and on any given night one of my friends’ bands will be playing there. I’d definitely take them to Black Dog Pizzeria to meet my friends Nick and Jessica and try the best pizza in town! Streetlight Guild is almost always hosting live poetry and art events, and open gallery hours on weekends. Columbus is full of artistic talent, and there isn’t any day of the week that I couldn’t find something entertaining to share with my guests.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
A lot of my current and past successes are due to the intervention and collaboration of my friends and peers. Tony Casa was one of the first friends in Columbus to encourage and support my music. He also offered me an outlet for my visual art via album covers, flyers, and t-shirt designs for his band Zoo Trippin’. Ryan Francis (Huge Euge) bought several beats from me when we first met, and later we went on to compete in the Nerdcore VPC together as the duo, Sirtet. He also brought me along to perform at Riot Fest last summer! Michael Heathen and G. Champion of G.L.O.A.T. Entertainment have supported me since we met. They’ve also given me the creative outlet of designing t-shirts, flyers, and album covers. Scott Woods at Streetlight Guild has shown his support and encouragement too, by offering opportunities to collaborate creatively on t-shirt and branding ideas for the org.
