We had the good fortune of connecting with Braisha Owens and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Braisha, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Since becoming a new mom, balancing work and life feels like living in color! I’ve become very strategic with my time, especially with a 7-month-old breastfed baby at home and my fiancé. I’ve learned to prioritize family time and work intentionally, while also learning to appreciate the little moments.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

My journey has been long, starting as a stylist for over a decade before swiftly transitioning to a full-time designer. Was it easy? Not at all. I am an art student at heart—I am an art student at heart—I wasn’t the best sewer, so I’ve had to really focus on honing my craft.

Lessons I’ve learned include the importance of continuously mastering your craft and celebrating small wins. With my background in styling and design, I noticed a gap in the industry where women didn’t feel good despite wearing beautifully styled ensembles. This realization led me to create my nonprofit brand, The Paper Bag Chronicles, which focuses on fashion wellness—how you feel before you put on your clothes.Honing in on the mantra can you rock a paper bag?

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In Columbus, Ohio, we would first check out Kitchen Social, one of my favorite restaurants. We’d hang out in Bridge Park, close to my house, then head to Jennie’s for some of the best ice cream in Ohio. Later, we’d visit the rooftop bar, Vaso. Since Vaso closes early, we’d have a kickback at home, enjoying each other’s company. Later in the week, we’d go to Easton for shopping at Burberry, Tiffany’s, and Louis Vuitton, followed by a meal at North Star. In the evening, we’d visit Pins and Beeline, one of my favorite bars. To finish off the week, we’d head to the Tanger Outlets and then go to Top Golf for food and drinks.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The love of my life, Charles, has been my sounding board, my sanity, and my confidant. I am grateful to my parents for their continued sacrifices and for being my biggest cheerleaders.
