We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittney Kelley-Harrison and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brittney, how do you define success?
Growing up my definition of success was what others thought of my accomplishments. That’s it and that’s all! If I failed, I won if others thought I was successful. So, in my eyes, that was success. As I’ve gotten older, my definition of success has changed tremendously. The dictionary defines success as – an accomplishment of an aim or a purpose. I define success as “peace of mind.” The feeling of completing a task or goal to the best of my ability regardless of the outcome. It’s all about how I feel.

Success to me is being a great entrepreneur, a wife, and a mom to two beautiful girls who think I’m the best at whatever I set out to do. Success to me is knowing that I have reached my goals and did it with grace. It’s not just about the attainment of wealth and honors. It’s about the feeling that you have deep inside of yourself, that you have worked hard to become what you are today and you’re happy.

What should our readers know about your business?
I am the Editor-in-chief of The Beat Mom Magazine. The Beat Mom is a magazine that gears towards the fashionable mommy moguls of the world. Our vision is to empower moms everywhere, to be your own kind of beautiful! We want to inspire all moms that live for fashion, kids, and their home life. We are new age moms! The powerful outspoken boss women of society. We want to encourage women that they are not defined as just a mom, but a boss mom who is extremely ambitious, motivated, fierce, and outspoken. Whether you are a corporate mom, stay at home mom or an entrepreneur. We are living unapologetically for us!

I started The Beat Mom as an extension of my current business Brittney Kelley Brands. I wanted to create a platform for women just like me. Boss moms that show up for their families and still love fashion. I wanted to establish a community and integrate topics that women like me are typically shunned upon, for loving because were moms. I want to show other moms like me that it’s ok to showcase our excellence all while being the best mom, wife or significant other. It’s ok, to go to brunch with friends and enjoy a night out with the girls dazzled in Alexander Wang!

Starting this publication hasn’t been easy. I’ve had so many barriers or things that came up that I wasn’t really prepared for, but I worked through it. Managing multiple brands at one time took a little bit more work than I assumed, and it was tough. I had to learn how to get into a good rhythm and manage my time better to operate more efficiently.

Overcoming the challenges weren’t easy. Putting the right team in place was crucial. The key to having a successful brand is being surrounded by an excellent team of people who think just like you!

I want the world to know that The Beat Mom Magazine and Brittney Kelley Brands is a community for all women to come together and share knowledge all while encouraging each other to be our authentic selves.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was coming to town, I’d love to show her a good time. We’d start out with massage’s at Woodhouse Day Spa followed by brunch at Toast & Berry. For the next several days we’d grab brunch at French Toast Haven and hang out with the kids at the Cincinnati Zoo and Urban Air. On the weekend we’d have lunch at Cozy’s café, dinner at Jeff Ruby’s Steakhouse and end with some music and dancing at Nostalgia Wine & Jazz lounge in downtown Cincinnati.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate this shoutout to my amazing mother- Ellen Kelley! If it wasn’t for her continued prayers and encouragement, I wouldn’t be who I am today. She is my mentor, confidant and #1 supporter. She has always pushed me to be the best at whatever goals I’ve set out to accomplish. For this I thank her from the bottom of my heart! Love you mom!
