We had the good fortune of connecting with Brooke Singleton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brooke, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
One of the core things about me personally, since I was little is a desire to learn. I could have definitely been an eternal university student! I actually became an educator myself first and then with the growing of our family and our move to a farm I decided to stay home and begin a business that irises the gift of land we owned. Eight years ago, flower farms were largely unheard of and not being a grower of anything, the science and business of it all really intrigued me. It so much more work than I’d expected when we started out, but the beauty every year keeps you coming back.

What should our readers know about your business?
When we began Bramble Run, a cut flower farm we began from the ground up, literally and figuratively. I had no growing knowledge and babies at home. I had no idea how much work it would be to farm and acre of high production flowers or really how well they’d be received. Our kids have learned along side me and hold as much knowledge now as I do, which is a really cool opportunity. And our communities has really supported us. One thing we love is that every year we get to take a look at our wins and our learnings and pivot for the next year. We laugh because we often see what needs changed for the next season before we ever have blooms from the current season. Flower farming really is all about the next season. For the 2024 season we want to help foster the community of local food farms and get the community involved with them. We’re offering a few events to help this through the year and also hitting on my teaching years (which I adored) and offering some homeschool farm science classes in our studio along with our seasonal workshop.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Amanda is u h a great spot to live! We’re 45 minutes from the Hocking hills and some of the BEST hikes and star gazing in the states. There’s so many cool places to stay there, which we only know about because our local travel blogger Jodi Bird and her Hocking Hills Revealed account we follow. Lancaster is 15 minutes away and is a artsy Hallmark town! You could spend a week there, eating at small owner restaurants, a brewery, and Irish pub and hit up some cool artsy museums. Paint pottery at Art and Clay or splatter paint at Young At Art! Amanda itself has the sweetest Bed and Breakfast on the same street as Spades cafe for your morning coffee before you head out to the local antiques and auction house and off to explore!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Our flower farm wouldn’t be a reality if it were first for the belt, support and hard work of my husband. He really is my better half and supports my dreams and my hair brained ideas! And also to Erin Benzakein and her book “Cut Flower Garden.” When I picked up Erin’s book off the library shelf, it was largely because it was absolutely beautiful and it made me want to open it. Erin was largely unknown then but has rightfully exploded in popularity since Magnolia pick up her farm for their programming. It is one of the most well written concise books I’ve read. It really in a cut-flower farm Bible.
