Meet Cae LaShawn | Independent Artist & Songwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Cae LaShawn and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cae, how do you think about risk?
Taking risks has DEFINITELY played a crucial part in my life and my career. Without risk-taking, you just never know how far you can actually go. Whether it be calculated or by the seat of our pants, we all deserve to allow ourselves various opportunities to take risks. We can’t always “wait” for someone else to be willing to take a chance. Why not take that chance and bet on yourself? Taking risks, also allows us to step into spaces of vulnerability. I think vulnerability is a place we all could benefit from. It entails putting yourself and your capabilities on the forefront and being able to trust yourself along the way.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am an R&B/NeoSoul Independent Artist. I’m most proud of my single that I just released on October 21st, 2023, BASIC LOVE which is streaming on all platforms. To be honest, I wasn’t always wholeheartedly serious about my career as an Artist. That was mainly because of fear and self-doubt. I didn’t have the support I believed I should have had, but I had to learn that I shouldn’t allow that to stop me from doing what I love and what I have been gifted to do. I learned dedication over motivation…showing up and doing even when I don’t feel like it. And if there’s something I don’t know, I either reach out and ask for help from a trusted source or I find a solution instead of making excuses. It is far from easy, but what’s the point of the course without obstacles? I’ve learned that not everyone will be held accountable for their word and I have to be okay with that. I have to not get overly emotional about and dwell on it. I have to process it, unpack it, and move on. I have been doubted more times than I can count and the haters seem to be endless. However, as a mom of 7, having been homeless, and experienced trauma, emotional and physical abuse in past relationships, and many other things, above all, I believe in myself. That’s something that no one else can take from me. With God’s help, I’m in control of my own story. I write how this goes.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m definitely taking my bestie to every place I can in the entertainment scene! Skully’s on High St., Natalie’s Grandview on King Ave, and The Savoy Club on Lake Club Drive. These are some of the hottest spots where you can find some of the best music from some of the top artists in the city.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are multiple people that I owe my success to! First and foremost, God. Without His guidance, His word, and His blessings, I wouldn’t even have thought that I could be anywhere close to where I am today. Next are my children. The gratitude I have for them is immense. I think, as a parent, (speaking for myself), sometimes I underestimate the motivation and dedication they provide for me to keep going and to do what I love. Not only because I love doing it but because it also provides an income for them. I owe them more than I could ever repay. My grandmother, Ms. Harriet Thomas, also deserves more than her fair share of recognition. Without her pushing me, helping me to relinquish my fears, and believing in my talents, I would have never made it this far. I can honestly say that where I am in life and my success is because of all of them.
