Meet Candice Quick | Private Chef

We had the good fortune of connecting with Candice Quick and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Candice, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Success. I believe the definition of success is different for everyone, and even changes for everyone depending on their current situation.
As a younger person, I saw success as a job I enjoyed and a family I loved to come home to. I have been blessed for the last 20 years to have employment in an industry I enjoy, and the last 5 years, wonderful husband to come home to (and yes, ofter our work/home life over lap, which is truly surpasses any vision of success I could have ever imagined).
Now, in terms of success of our business the last 3 1/2 years? Well that comes down to a lot of hard work, dedication and at times, luck.
I have been lucky enough to find clarity and inspiration in situations many may only see defeat. The Hospitality industry is not an easy one to devote yourself to. In fact it incredibly demanding and unforgiving most of the time. Success I have had has come from those demanding moments, and using them to make me wiser and stronger for future demanding moments.
It is never easy. Never. It is however, always worth it. Providing a service, as custom and high-end as we do, to families all over the greater Columbus area is so rewarding. To have started a business at the height of a global pandemic and have had growth every year since…. If that isn’t success, then I don’t know what is.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Over the past 3+ years, our business has grown and expanded in wonderful ways to provide all sorts of great services. We are most excited to expand and bring on more weekly clients for our custom meal delivery, and reach even more of Columbus’s Pup’s with our Fresh Dog Food!
Getting to this point has not been easy, nothing worth doing usually is easy, but it is 100% worth it. Early on I knew I wanted to be a Chef, but it wasn’t clear early on how to make it a reality. I spent time learning recipes on my own, studying the industry in College, but knew I wanted to go to Culinary school still.
I was very fortunate to attend the Culinary Institute in Hyde Park NY, and in the industry, it is often debated whether or not culinary school is necessary, I feet like for me, it was, as I was able to obtain a significant amount of industry knowledge that I wasn’t able to gain through experience alone in the work place. Gaining experience in order to move forward was so difficult because all too often I wasn’t taken as seriously as my male counter parts. I have to thank many female Chefs before me, the Alice Waters, Julia Childs and Cat Cora’s of the world truly paved a way for future women to find success in kitchens.
One very important piece of wisdom I held onto through all the years was “Do the jobs no one else wants to do”. As I began to step into more serious Chef rolls, this gave me a fighting edge. Taking ahold of responsibilities that others couldn’t handle or didn’t want to take on, allowed me to learn and grow in new, often daily, challenges. Each challenge made me stronger for the next, and now all of those experiences have equipped me successfully run our current business. So now with our own business, I have nearly 20 years of industry experience to look back on and help guide me forward with the learned ability to stay adaptable, creative and resilient through any obstacle that may bubble up,
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are so many places I would love to take them. One place at the top of the list is the new Jackie-o’s bar on 4th. It is such a welcoming space and we’ve loved their beer, seeing their success over the years is fantastic.
Depending on the time of the year, a Clippers Game or a Blue Jackets game is always on the table.
In terms of where to eat? I cannot host people in Columbus and not want to cook for them, Being able to prepare something super delicious in the comfort of our own home is too good to pass up on!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family have been my biggest supporters along they way. With out their support, I would not have had the successes of today.
