We had the good fortune of connecting with Cassandra Kay and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cassandra Kay, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success and the success of my brand is being authentically myself. I don’t think I will ever measure my success by a number but rather knowing what I’m sharing and putting out into the world is positive and brings light into someone else’s world.

I have always strived to be myself in every aspect of my life and to pave my own way. I have tried to follow that same principle with Roost Eleven Eighteen. I want it to reflect my uniqueness but still be a welcoming place for anyone alike and different from me.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Roost Eleven Eighteen was created in 2021 after months of debating and years of feeling alone dealing with my anxiety. I wanted to share my passions and my different projects while also sharing my mental health journey. I wanted to create a safe place where everyone was welcomed and for us to learn and grow together. I had a lot of self-doubt before I published my website. I sat debating for a good three months before it actually went live.

I have learned the best way for me to succeed is to give myself grace. I have always been a perfectionist. Putting all those high expectations on myself only causes me to feel frustrated and want to give up when I don’t reach those expectations. Reminding myself that it is okay to do my best and not try to be perfect. I have always believed that I needed to give others around me that grace, so it only makes sense to share that with myself.

You will see a little bit of everything on Roost Eleven Eighteen. I like to share my life and my current projects. Gardening, booking/baking, home DIY projects, lifestyle, and book talk. I try to be as honest as I can with my mental health journey to help others who might be struggling with something similar. I am also hoping to expand my cut flower garden tremendously in Spring 2024 and hope to create a successful bouquet business.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would have to visit the local lake and The Boardwalk Grill + Boardwalk Marketplace. We both love to kayak, so we would spend much time kayaking on The Grand Lake. Eating at Shandys Grill and Bar and shopping at Made Home making sure to pick up some Blended Collective Co candles and 419 Collective to pickup some of Cassie’s Country Cupboard mixes in downtown Celina, Ohio. Also, check out CBY Yogurt for some great frozen yogurt.

Also on the list is Coldwater, Ohio; for some Rooster Joe Coffee, check out Plantique and eat at Mariachis.

Definitely make it over to Decatur, Indiana, to eat at Famous Monster Pizza and check out The Next Page Bookstore.

Over to Wapakoneta, Ohio, to check out the Armstrong Air & Space Museum, visit downtown Wapakoneta to check out all the really neat antique stores, and eat at J. Marie’s Woodfire Kitchen. Visit Scoops for some great ice cream.

In Portland, Indiana, grab a quick drink and breakfast at Bizy Dips and visit the Wheel & Spoke Antique Mall.

To round up the trip, need to make a stop in Maria Stein, Ohio for some great food at Moeller Brew Barn and get some ice cream the The Dairy Station.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
A big shoutout goes out to my sister Karlie and my best friend Maurissa for supporting me and giving me the moral support I needed to start Roost Eleven Eighteen. They have both been there ever since day one.

I would also love to shout out Andrea from Out of Darkness Candle Co., Shay from 341 Farms, and Tracey from Gig Harbor Canine Cottage. I have gained three great friendships with these ladies, and we support one another in every way possible.

Andrea and Shay have also become the backbone of Roost Eleven Eighteen Book Club.

Speaking of Roost Eleven Eighteen Book Club, I want to shout out all the ladies who have been a part of the group since day one! Afton, Andrea, Ashley, Karlie, Krystal, Maurissa, Michala, Olivia, and Shay. Thank you for being a part of the group that was never a part of the plan but felt like it was meant to be.
