We had the good fortune of connecting with Cecilia Vasquez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cecilia, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Rather than seeing it as a business, we see it as a space where people of any age can find a connection with their roots through dance and music, willing to spread and preserve their culture with pride. That is what my family and I were looking for ourselves, and when we couldn’t find it we saw the need to create the space, we are happy to be able to share with the community.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started dancing regularly at 15, and after that I never stopped, I belonged to different groups and participated in different international events, when we moved to the United States, we missed being able to continue dancing professionally, during the pandemic we had the opportunity to prepare taking workshops and online courses, and when we reintegrate into our activities we look for a way to form a group, which is where we find different people with the need to feel in connection with their traditions and culture, as the group grows, Opportunities for presentations and events did too. As representatives of our culture outside our country, we seek that our presentations always show the most real and attached to what happens in Mexico, we research, study and practice to be able to offer presentations that represent our culture in a dignified manner.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In summer I love visiting the zoo and parks with lakes or areas with flowers, but if we want an indoor experience I would choose to visit the COSI or the Art Museum.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband is definitely the one who has always supported me in all my ideas and projects, he is also a dancer, however having a family with small children sometimes makes it difficult for us to take workshops and refresher courses on a regular basis. So I’m the one who takes them, while he stays in charge at home.
