Meet Charity Adu

We had the good fortune of connecting with Charity Adu and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Charity, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, after my family immigrated from Nigeria to the United States. My upbringing was deeply rooted in Nigerian culture, as my parents made sure our home was a place where our heritage was celebrated and preserved. Family has always been at the heart of my life. We shared a home filled with optimism, lively conversations, music, and the warmth of togetherness. My parents have always been incredibly supportive, encouraging me to pursue my passions, knowing that as long as I have something meaningful to strive for, that’s what matters most to them.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As I enter my senior year at Columbus College of Art & Design, I’m excited to share that I recently began working as a graphic designer at my school. This opportunity has been a significant milestone in my journey. My commitment to building connections with my peers and actively seeking out feedback was what set me on this path. At its core, graphic design is a collaborative field, and I’ve learned that being open to critiques and working closely with others is essential to creating impactful work. It hasn’t always been easy, but embracing teamwork and staying curious has helped me overcome challenges along the way. Through these experiences, I’ve come to appreciate the power of collaboration and the importance of being a team player. I want my story to be one of perseverance, passion, and dedication to growth. I’m proud of the progress I’ve made, and I’m eager to continue evolving as a designer.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I were to show a friend around Columbus for a week, we’d start with a visit to Yes Sushi, a new spot downtown that quickly became one of my favorites. They offer delicious boba, sushi, and ramen, and the passion the owner and staff have for their craft makes the experience even more enjoyable. The Columbus Museum of Art always has something new and inspiring on display. For a change of pace, Glen Echo Park has scenic paths and tunnels for a nature walk and exploration.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
This shoutout is dedicated to my friends and family for being my number one fans and always supporting me throughout my career. Also shoutout to the book ‘Think Like A Designer Don’t Act Like One’ by Jeroen Van Erp for out of the box thinking and inspiration on the design world.
