We had the good fortune of connecting with Chase Rankine and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chase, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I first started DJing it was not a business idea rather a passion project. I really enjoyed dance music festivals and here In Cleveland Ohio it’s a pretty underground music scene when it comes to house and techno music and dance culture, so I began a live stream online and then started to branch out into live shows, that’s when I realized whether I like it or not, DJ CRANKIN is a business. I started networking and setting up events in town and I just try to keep progressing as much as I can.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
When I dj my sets are mostly house and techno focused and I pride myself on song selection and smooth mixing. There are so many different styles of DJing I am proud to have found a style that I think shows my fans music they have never heard of but still enjoy.

I started in my home office DJing live streams for 5 hours straight (most likely sounding terrible) and now I’m lucky to have built a brand around myself and made great connections to be able to provide in person live shows multiple times a month.

It wasn’t hard to get started but it was a year or 2 of attending open decks after working 9-5 sometimes finishing DJing at 2 am and going back to the office at 9 the next day, playing for free, posting content etc before I made enough of a name to be contacted directly.

I learned a lot about the local scene and how it is working with venues and really made a lot of great connections and a lot of bad ones as well. Always be sincere and respectful but also look out for yourself and your wellbeing.

It’s all a dream until you try and whatever is easy is usually not worth the time. I still have a lot to learn and a lot to share

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When my friends visit town I always like taking them to an event in Cleveland such as a guardians game, or a show in playhouse square.

Grab some food and drinks in Ohio city or in the flats

Show them the beautiful parks and beaches around Cleveland and Lake Erie

I’m also an avid golfer so if there’s time we go hit the links one of my favorites being valley of the eagles in Elyria.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Creatively I have always found inspiration in John Summit – he’s original, creative and has taken the music industry by storm in the last 5 years.

I always have to give recognition to all my fans and friends that continue to support me in the small community we have here in Cleveland. I’m always so grateful for how much everyone supports me because truly it is for them.

There are a few people in cleveland that were a part of the scene before me in Cleveland and I have to thank them for giving me a shot to showcase my skills and talent in a live setting at clubs here. Tyler Britton Zinn booked me for my first show and still does regularly, Brian Blackbird has also shown a ton of support till this day.

My good friends Brandon Campana and Brad Armstrong teamed up with me to begin throwing our own events and we have a few under the belt now ready to keep that going!
