We had the good fortune of connecting with Chris Fury and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chris, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success would have to be consistency and being true to the content I put out. It’s allowed me to meet some very influential people that are working in entertainment and the world of the comic book genre as a whole. Whether it’s been cosplay, nerdcore music, comic book writers, artists and more! It’s also garnered me a level of attention and respect amongst the Blerd and Nerd Communities.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a podcast/ web show host, editor and producer of Blerd’s Eyeview. I’m also a voice actor in some of the free time I have. I’m most proud of the content I put out for others to enjoy, be entertained and encouraged by.. We’ve had the pleasure of interviewing talents’ such as Ted Lange, Carl Jones of The Boondocks and Black Dynamite animated shows, Khleo Thomas, Cree Summer and Orlando Jones! like to describe my show as a cross between The Arsenio Hall Show, The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and Saturday Night Live. Getting to where I am now wasn’t easy. There were a lot of ups and downs but I wouldn’t trade it for anything! The challenges or obstacles I faced were things like equipment failures or having a weak signal or even using a podcast hosting site that didn’t transfer well when I did a live show. I powered through those moments. I had a backup laptop when my main computer’s motherboard burned out on me. I would say the some of the lessons I learned was learning how to pivot and planning ahead. You might have a guest cancel last minute or what you originally had planned for a topic gets tossed because something more newsworthy popped up. What I want the world to no about my brand is that is that we are the safe space for up and coming POC creatives. If you have a project, we want you on the show. Your creativity needs and deserves to be seen, supported and celebrated! We love the world of entertainment too so whether you’re up and coming or an already established talent, drop us a line let’s discuss!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well, I’m originally from Akron and downtown Akron has some great eateries such as Dejuan’s Downtown Akron or a small staple in the community in Ann’s Restaurant. I’ve lived in Cleveland for about 15 years so there’s definitely a lot of eateries here like the Cleveland Breakfast Club or Zanzibar Soul Fusion. The Comic book scene is amazing at Carol and Johns’ Comic shop which has been in business for what I believe to be 30 plus years!! They are family friendly, engaging staff and don’t get me started on the Free Comic Book Day/Night party, Christmas get togethers and more! 16 Bit arcade and bar is nice mix of specialty drinks and free arcade games of the 80’s and 90’s along with bowling and pool That sits across the street from the World Famous West Side Market where you can find some of the best and freshest fruit, meats and pastries in Cleveland!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are quite a few people I can thank for my path or mentorship. I actually began the path of reporting entertainment news through Ohio Media School (OMS), While attending I was introduced to Amanda Casey, Jeff Ford and John Dusenberry II. Amanda taught how to write commercials and I currently have mock commercials and real affiliate commercials that are played during my show. Jeff and John showed my the tips, tricks and methods in podcasting. They seen I had the voice and talent and introduced me to Tommy D of Circle of Nerds where I joined his podcast to talk entertainment and Star Wars related content. It was while I was on the CON crew I earned the name Chris Fury due to my extensive knowledge on things that were nerdy. Especially in comics and Star Wars. Afterwards, I built Blerd’s Eyeview as a way to showcase Blerd Culture and those that contribute to it. While also providing a safe space for people of color to feel free in expressing their love for these same nerdy things without dealing with the negative impact of bullying, shaming and even racism. It all has led me to Demetrius Holt of Blerd and Powerful a platform dedicated to the exposure of and recognition of Black owned comic book conventions while also promoting anti-bullying and expressing who you are. Also, to Kevin J. Murphy, Co-founder of Blerd Station. An upcoming streaming service with the consumer in mind and in the forefront. There’s other people I’ve met and worked with along the way and who have helped cultivate my platform.
