We had the good fortune of connecting with Chrysee Hinshaw and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chrysee, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
I worked a demanding and stressful career in special education as a psychologist. I started baking and selling macarons on the side in 2019, mostly for fun. After COVID started, and I was forced to work less as a psychologist (and remotely when I did), I started to realize how much of a toll the work had been having on me. I have not returned to my career full time as a result and now spend significantly more time on my microbakery. It has made the single biggest impact on my mental health, moreso than therapy or pharmaceuticals. I have the ability to seek out more work but, more importantly, the ability to decline work.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I love what I do. Baking for events, wedding or showers or parties, and matching my client’s vision allows me a creativity I’m not able to experience in my erstwhile day job.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Downtown Delaware, Ohio is a gem. We live within walking distance of downtown and multiple microbreweries, independent book and record stores, restaurants, and a 100+ year old movie theater.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost, my husband supports my choice to take a step back from traditional employment to focus on myself, my own happiness, and the ability to be more present for our family. I also deeply appreciate our little community in Delaware, Ohio that make it accessible to participate in things like Main Street Delaware’s Farmers Market, events at Boardman Arts Park, and annually be a vendor at Delaware Pride. Most of my business is from word-of-mouth and repeat customers.
