We had the good fortune of connecting with Collin Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Collin, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I suppose it’s the only thing I care about. I would rather make something I’m proud of, than work a meaningless 9-5 until I die. Unfortunately it’s not common to make a living on music alone, so I’ll probably have to do both.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m proud of all of my projects, but my most recent to date, “Sewersludge” is killer! I just wanted to make a raw, heavy, stupid project, and I did exactly that. Also my more fun project with my Blip bandmate Jacob, “Root Beer”. It started with one stupid song off the dome, and now we’re working on a full-length album. It’s quite impressive how there’s so much you can say about root beer. And of course all three of us at Blip are constantly working on new material for the band. It may be awhile until you hear some new stuff, but I think it’ll be worth the wait.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Wrong person to ask, Ohio is as boring as it gets, especially in a small town. I suppose you can start a cult in a cornfield, but other than that, I don’t know.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Blip is technically my first real band, and without its creation, I probably wouldn’t be doing music right now. All of the bands and artists I grew up with definitely had an impact on the music I make, and the interest I have in music in general.
