Meet Comfort Witcher | Owner of Comfort Photography and For the Horticulture

We had the good fortune of connecting with Comfort Witcher and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Comfort, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I graduated from college, I wasn’t sure exactly what I wanted to do. I feel like I picked a major sophomore year, because I had to, but I had no clue what I wanted to do for the rest of my life at the age of 19! My degree is in Psychology, so I contemplated becoming a school counselor. Then I decided to take the GRE and apply to grad school for elementary education. I got into OSU’s grad program, but thought about it and I really didn’t want to go that route. I knew that I wanted freedom and flexibility and I began to think about starting a business. I thought of all of the things that I enjoyed doing and photography was on the list. I decided the summer after I graduated to assist a local wedding photographer, and from there I decided to start my own business. The rest is history!
I also started another business, For the Horticulture in 2020. I started that business because I have always wanted a product based business. My mom is a plant fanatic, and I started a line of t-shirts for plant lovers like her. During covid I saw so many people fall in love with houseplants due to the extra time in the house. I too have more plants than I intended to have. Plants are therapeutic!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I think what sets me apart from other photographers is that I actually care about making your wedding day the best day that it can be, photos aside. So though documenting your day and creating beautiful photographs is my top priority, I also do my best to ensure that your day runs as smoothly as possible. I’m something like a wedding coordinator, myself and my assistant are there to do what we can to help your day go off without a hitch. I genuinely want you to have the best day ever!
The same goes for any other photos that I take. If it’s brand photos, I want to know all about you and your brand, your color palette, your message. Photography is more than just pretty pictures, it about story telling.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love Columbus. Besides the fact that I hate winter, I don’t think I would want to live anywhere else. Some of my favorite places to eat are Kitchen Social and Tacos Rudos at Budd Dairy Hall. Summer in the city always has tons to do. 614 Day is one of my favorite days, and The Color of Summer is one of my favorite events. Featuring R&B events are great for people looking for smaller more intimate settings. And for people who love big parties, check out Orange Soda. Need a space for a photoshoot or girl’s night, check out Legacy House 614. Columbus has so much to offer!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my mother, Donna Owusu-Jones! My mom has been my biggest cheerleader my whole life. She has always been supportive of me and any ideas that I come up with. I could have told her that I was running away with the circus and she would be there front row with a box of popcorn. I have always felt that she would have my back no matter what, and for that I’m thankful!
