We had the good fortune of connecting with Daisy Zimmer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Daisy, how do you define success?
Success means using what you’re good at to make life better for people around you. Picture an artist making something beautiful that makes others happy. Think of the conductor of a band, where every action helps everyone work together smoothly. It’s about using your talents to help solve problems, lift people’s moods, and bring people closer together. Success happens when you make a positive difference that sticks around.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
When it comes to my photography, what I’m mainly striving for is creating a comfortable and welcoming experience for the families who step in front of my camera. Having family photos done can be both exciting and stressful, and it’s important to take care of the person first. Everyone deserves to be seen, valued, and heard. If we take care of that and focus on having a fun experience, the photos that come out of it are just automatically going to be beautiful. But even more importantly, the memories will hold significant meaning to the people they belong to.

Building a photography business centered around capturing feelings rather than just pretty pictures has definitely had its hurdles, especially in today’s era of social media and artificial enhancements where authenticity can feel scarce. But through it all, I’ve come to accept that it’s perfectly fine to stand out in a world that often pushes everyone to conform. And it’s a message I want to share with every family I work with.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A week in Columbus would be wasted without breakfast at DK Diner in Grandview, spending an hour (or two) getting lost in the Book Loft, grabbing a pint at Savor Pint in Clintonville and eating any of the unpretentious food options (Addis Ethiopian, Los Gauchos, RayRay’s, Lavash). Then of course you’d have to experience a concert at the Newport, grab some late-night pizza (Late Night Slice and Hounddogs come to mind).

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
It might sound cliché, but my husband has truly been my rock, and I owe a lot of my success to his unwavering support. Even with his hectic schedule as a full-time student, he still finds time to make me coffee every morning, do the grocery shopping, and take care of all those small tasks that add up. These seemingly minor gestures might not seem like much on their own, but they make all the difference in keeping me grounded during busy times or when I’m tackling a major project.
