We had the good fortune of connecting with Darius Smith aka Since2008 and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Since2008, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Being artistic runs in my family genes. From what I know, it started with both grandfathers being musically inclined and one of them also being an actual artist. It’s been a story in the my family that my grandfather actually drew the original Arby’s logo but they eventually chose a different direction with just using the hat the character my grandfather drew instead of the full character itself. My other grandfather played piano and also was a co-host on a radio show. Those few influences led to my uncles and cousins pursing music and art which led me taking both paths.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I love being creative and stepping out of the box when it comes to creating art. If there is anything I’d say I’m proud of, it’d be that! It’s very difficult to continue to step out of the box especially when you have real life in your face and it seems like those who may not think outside the box are succeeding at a faster rate than you are but I believe those who really care about the art behind their work will have a longer successful run than those who don’t. You have to quiet out the noise of those who are doubting you and also not pay attention/compare others success to yours. If the world can take anything from me, It’d be to do what you love and never let anyone steer you from it. Its your life, not theirs, even if it’s your parents.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Honestly, I don’t get out much but a couple of things my friends and I like to do is attend the Grog Shop for local shows/concerts. A little ritual we’ve had is after leaving the Grog Shop we eat at Guys Pizza down the street on Coventry. A couple of other things we’d do is shop at the mall, go see any new movies in theaters, be kids again and book a few hours at fun n stuff, skyzone, etc.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I think I’d have to give my family the credit for what made me start this career. Without Nick Samps, Jordan Graham and the other creatives in my family, I wouldn’t have decided to indulge in the art world.
