We had the good fortune of connecting with Darrell Scott and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Darrell, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Early in my life, I was a Radio announcer. I worked at a jazz radio. It was a daytime radio station. I started out being just the music director. I became the Assistant Program Director, Music Director, Production, basically being in charge of the station. After that I bounced around a few other stations. I wasn’t making enough to pay my cable bill, so I landed in the world of IT. I worked on computers for 20 plus years. At the end my boss and I didn’t see I to eye to eye. So I retired. Jazz music was always something that I loved. Technology had change and the jazz market had dried up. The jazz station in town had shut down. So I thought about creating a podcast. I floated the idea to close friends. They agreed, go for it. I began to research everything I would need. Computer, lights, microphones, etc. I found a very talented producer. We talked about the idea. We started I realized that getting the top names in the genre would be tough, so I started with the local folks I knew while still reaching out to the national stars. The local folks have been a godsend and the national musicians like Jackiem Joyner, Kirk Whalum, Janis Siegel, Gerald Albright, Norman Brown, Kim Scott and more) are coming on board. It is growing, views and subscribers are up. It is tough but we persevere

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I think the one thing is I have worked hard, I always ask questions. I realize that I am not perfect, but I can try. I have always had a strong will. I try to figure out ways to do my job better but understand that it may only work for me. Sometimes you have to stand on your principles. People may not like or understand your principles, but they are mine. If they work, they work. I am not college educated. I am common sense education. I also have a good sense about people. You have to listen to them, figure out how to approach them. I had to work with VP’s, directors to shop floor people. It is not the title that they have it’s the person that they are. Laughter is the greatest ice breaker there is. I also understand that not everyone is going to like me but I have to be me which I will always do

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well, there are a few things We would have to play some golf, we’d go to see a least one concert, probably a Parliament\Funkedelic concert as well as a Gerald Albright concert, there would be a Browns game on the schedule. As long as the restaurant had good food we’d be there. We are probably in Vegas, some gambling on the schedule but I think paramount on this list is a place to sit and talk where would relax and enjoy some quiet time

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We can start with my mother and my family. I had some success at an early age but they would not let me forget that hard work got me to a place and that same attitude would take me further. The family always keep me in check and checked up on me. My aunts and grandmother were well known throughout the city so I couldn’t misbehave because someone would see me and report back to my parents. As I moved on different people had a effect on my self. Marge Bush and Steve Foltin from The Ohio School of Broadcasting, Radio announcer Mike Love, Carol Ford for WDMT, Gerald Gregory, friend since 2nd grade, There have been many people along the way, I have learned to take bits and pieces from them and apply it to my own life. Everyone is not perfect but there might be an aspect of their life that is perfect for me. The one thing I now live by is “I have no desire to be mediocre”
