We had the good fortune of connecting with Devon Douglas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Devon, alright, let’s jump in with a deep one – what’s you’re definition for success?
I define success as the ability to spend my time doing the things I love. Those include making art, spending times with my friends and family, and making a difference in the world. While I am always working towards growth, I feel successful spending my time planning a community festival, painting, traveling, and hanging out with the people I love.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I took on the challenge of planning a large community festival with my husband in 2019 as I was finishing my dissertation. I could not have imagined the task we were taking on. We have had a different challenge every year including moving parks, a pandemic, and a total renovation of our event space. I am extremely proud we have put on a successful event despite each of these challenges. Every year, we have implemented community feedback and added to our festival. Along with the support of our amazing committee, the city, and my family, my love for Miamisburg and passion for having fun has made Spring Fest a success. Our goal is to bring a fun, free event to the community and showcase all that our town has to offer.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Miamisburg is a small town with a ton to offer. Our downtown is a must-visit. Some of my favorite activities are enjoying live music at Jayne’s on Main, ordering dinner to be delivered from Bennett’s, and then picking up a little treat at Amy Cakes. Ron’s Pizza, Bullwinkle’s, and Hamburger Wagon are always on my list for dinner. I also enjoy checking out the music at the local breweries or Good Time Charlies. If you have time during the day, walking down Main Street has cute shops like M&Co., Cozy Corner, Grandpa Joe’s Candy, and Monocle Comics. We also have a lot of street art and murals to look at while walking around.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband Dan, the Spring Fest Committee (Heather, Madi, Rhonda, Brandi, & Mark), the City of Miamisburg, my best friend Luisa and my family have supported me and made it possible for me to live my dreams!
