We had the good fortune of connecting with Dion Hatcher and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dion, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I’m originally from Southwest Detroit, in my early teens I moved to North Royalton Ohio which was two different worlds. It gave me an opportunity to see the world from a different angle. I didn’t have to speculate on how the other side lived because I seen it up close

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I originally started professionally as a song writer in the early to mid 90s, eventually going on to Co-found the Cleveland underground rap group 2nd Generation Ohio Playaz with Quincy “Big Heff” Taylor in 1995 and being a part of Detroit Super Group “Tree-O” After performing for years, and putting out several projects including my only solo project “The Manicure” I decided to step away from music for a while. I began writing films with the encouragement of Heff and Johnny Lump.
Heff and I then formed a production company called “Esteemed Colleagues” and released our first film “The Capp” (Which I also starred in) we’re now shooting “Surf Club” which I also wrote.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m a huge Michigan sports fan and I also live in Ann Arbor, Michigan so a basketball, or football game depending on the season, bourbon and steaks at my favorite steak spot Knights on Liberty and cap it off with a cigar at Tobacco Rose or LaCasa Ann Arbor.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
